Mother-in-law, 84, falls from camper during family holiday in Spain after getting out at 60mph when she thought she was opening the toilet door

A German woman has died after falling from a moving camper van during a family holiday in Spain, thinking the exit was the toilet door.

The tragic incident took place last Thursday at around 5.30am near Rotgla i Corbera in the province of Valencia, according to the Spanish Guardia Civil.

The unnamed 84-year-old woman was reportedly en route to Denia with her daughter-in-law, who was driving the vehicle.

While the incident is currently under investigation, authorities believe it was most likely an accident. Police say the retiree may have mistaken the RV door for the toilet door.

According to a Spanish news outlet Telecinco, A truck driver witnessed the horrific scene and described seeing the right door of the camper swing open and seconds later a body being thrown out and rolled onto the road.

At that moment the woman was hit by another vehicle that was passing by. She died instantly.

According to reports, the camper continued driving, but local police found the driver at a gas station 5 miles (8.5 kilometers) from the accident scene.

The driver stopped at a gas station after realizing her mother-in-law was missing from the car.

She then reportedly called an employee for help, explaining that she had heard a loud bang from the back of the vehicle before realizing her traveling companion was no longer there.

According to Telecinco, the woman’s daughter-in-law, who owns the vehicle, has not been charged with a crime.

Meanwhile, investigators have ruled out the possibility that a third person was in the vehicle.
