Pre-order this Outer Wilds art book now

I have rarely felt so called as I did today, when I opened my inbox and the following words welled up in my head from a sea of email subjects: “Outer Wilds: Design Works announced.” I can’t remember the last time I clicked on an email so quickly.

“Lost In Cult is extremely proud to reveal Outer Wilds: Design Works“, the press release said, referring to the UK-based publisher of The Console Chroniclesa book that I literally received in the post last week, I need a break! There are two versions of the book, a lovely Standard Edition for a reasonable £44.99 and then a only sick Deluxe Edition for a sun-exploding £125.99… that’s the one I bought, and I’m confident it was the right decision for me and my family, no questions asked. Both options are available to pre-order now on the Lost in Cult Website until November 2 and should ship in the second or third quarter of next year.

The press release states that this is the publisher’s “most requested book” ever“which, duh, is natural. It’s a scientific fact — and as a fan of Outer WildernessOf course, I’m a scientist at heart, and I think anyone who’s played the game will do anything to experience even a modicum of the wonder and mystery inherent in every minute of its 22-minute time loops.

And while there is no going back in time, this is true again as a scientist* and as Outer Wilderness player, I understand that even if you’re stuck in a time loop, knowledge evolves — this book may represent a small opportunity to discover something new in a world that’s desperate for some wonder and some mystery since I put the final pieces of Polygon’s 2019 game of the year puzzle together. Check out this trailer here and don’t tell me there isn’t a something here that will soothe the itch:

“My jaw didn’t drop while playing Outer Wilderness,” wrote Polygon’s Chelsea Stark in our Game of the Year review, “in some parts it felt like it had been permanently fixed to the floor.” While this Deluxe Edition book isn’t quite as simple as a replacement jaw, it does include a cool paper model, some fun posters, a map of the game’s solar system, stickers, a bookmark, and “an interactive puzzle featuring replica projection stones.”

What do you say? “Use this to get another Outer Wilderness secret in the pages of our book,” the press release promises. Okay, you win, Lost in Cult. Pass it on. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
