It’s heating up at Taco Bell! Fast-food chain introduces new sauce
Taco Bell has released a new hot sauce inspired by singer Omar Apollo’s family recipe that has been passed down for generations.
The fast food chain announced Monday that it will introduce the new sauce packaging, called Disha Hot, nationwide.
The sauce, which is available for a limited time, is made from roasted tomatillos, white vinegar, onions, peppers, tomatoes, lime juice and a secret spice blend, the company said.
Starting Thursday, all customers can try the new sauce, while Taco Bell Rewards members will have early access to it starting Tuesday.
Disha Hot is available a la carte starting at $0.20 or in a limited edition Disha Hot Discovery Box for $8.99 at participating U.S. locations.

The chain first began talking to the Grammy-nominated musician about the sauce last year, with the aim of bringing the recipe to a wider audience.
“When Omar shared the story about his family’s Disha Hot sauce and its unique, personal flavors, we knew this was the type of meaningful collaboration our fans would love,” said Taylor Montgomery, Taco Bell’s Chief Marketing Officer.
The sauce comes in sachets with texts such as ‘Hotter in person’, ‘My mother made this’ and ‘Who is Omar Apollo?’
The Disha Hot Discovery Box contains a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, a Doritos Locos Taco, a Crunchy Taco, chips with nacho cheese sauce and a medium drink.

Apollo’s mother, Enriqueta, came up with the recipe after she and the singer’s father opened a Mexican restaurant, El Super Taco, after immigrating to the U.S. from Guadalajara, Mexico.
El Super Taco closed before Apollo’s parents could serve the sauce to customers, inspiring Apollo to make the sauce more popular.
“Everyone in his family has a recipe that is worth sharing with the rest of the world. For me, that is Disha Hot Hot Sauce,” says Apollo.
“It’s not just about the flavors that take me back to my childhood, but also about honoring my heritage and the countless sacrifices my parents made so I could pursue my passions.”
Apollo and his mom excitedly whipped up a batch of Disha Hot during an episode of Taco Bell’s Test kitchenand explained that they used to make the sauce every Sunday.

Taco Bell added the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme and the Big Cheez-It Tostada to its nationwide menu last week.
The chain had the dishes on its menu in June of last year but removed them in July, despite the fact that the Big Cheez-It Tostada had already become a fan favorite.
The Cheez-It themed limited-time items are available while supplies last.
