The 61-year-old soap star shared how she’s learned to embrace getting older and lifted the lid on 25 years of playing Eileen Grimshaw
She explained: ‘There are so many people my age that I talk to who are depressed about reaching 60. You feel like this is the end, that everything goes downhill from here. And I definitely don’t feel that way.
“I just feel like the world is really my oyster right now, and there’s so much out there. There’s so much you can do.”
Sue, who has played Eileen since 2000, said what she loves most about her role is that she represents “every woman.”
“Everyone knows an Eileen. Look down most streets in the UK and you’ll find an Eileen or someone who looks a bit like an Eileen,” she said.
‘She may not have as many homeless and homeless people as Eileen on TV, and she may not be able to fit as many people into her little terraced house, but I think you recognize her as a woman who has been through a lot: a single mother dealing with the challenges of life and not only making it through, but in some ways thriving.’
Elsewhere, Sue lifted the lid on what really goes on behind the scenes in Weatherfield in an interview with The Mirror.
She told of a wild night out for her on-screen son Ryan Thomas to celebrate his 21st birthday, which involved a quiet drink that ended in a break-in at her dressing room in the early hours.
Sue explains: ‘It made perfect sense to me to go straight from the party to the nearest studio, sneak into my dressing room and sleep until my make-up call.’

She continued: ‘Luckily no one else knew about it and I was certainly not the only one who had done this over the years.
‘I have to admit, I’ve had the best afternoon naps ever on a famous character’s bed!’
‘I don’t do that so much these days, but sometimes, if we’re filming at the Grimshaws and it’s lunchtime, I’ll just stay there and have a nap on the sofa.’
