Fox ‘rejected’ bold Tom Brady request from Netflix after streaming giants secured $150m NFL Christmas deal

According to reports, an ambitious bid from Netflix to hire Tom Brady for its NFL coverage was rejected by Fox over Christmas.

Brady recently began his new career as an NFL analyst for Fox, after signing a whopping $375 million contract with the network for the 2024 season.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner, who was lambasted for his debut in the broadcast booth earlier this month, has a 10-year contract with Fox, meaning he will be unavailable to their rivals for the next decade.

And according to the New York PostNetflix recently learned this the hard way.

The streaming giant, which recently inked a $150 million deal to air Chiefs vs. Steelers and Ravens vs. Texans on Christmas Day, reportedly asked Fox if it could use Brady for its festive NFL broadcasts, but the request was quickly denied.

Netflix was keen to pair the football legend with its current TV partner Kevin Burkhardt, but Fox turned down the offer.

After failing to land Brady and Burkhardt, Ian Eagle, Noah Eagle, Greg Olsen and Nate Burleson emerged as alternative targets.

No deals have been struck yet, but Fox is said to be “considering” making a deal for Olsen.

Netflix wanted to hire Brady for the Christmas Day games despite his controversial start to the announcing.

The 47-year-old’s debut for the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns season opener earlier this month was heavily criticized, with NFL fans criticizing his performance in the booth.

Some fans ridiculed him early on after he made a strange statement: ‘It’s hard to get 10 metres, but really hard to get 20 metres’.

A fan wrote on X, “Maybe someone should have listened to Tom Brady before spending $300 million on him,” referring to the 10-year, $375 million deal Fox gave him.

However, Brady managed to make one of his famous NFL comebacks when he improved his performance during the Cowboys’ loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.

And there was one moment in particular that convinced NFL fans he was the right fit for the position.

Trailing 28-13 and running a quick pass, quarterback Prescott looked to Jalen Brooks, but the sophomore receiver slipped on his route and the pass was intercepted.

After the gaffe, Fox Sports reporter Kevin Burkhardt asked Brady if Prescott should return to receiver during the game. The retired quarterback didn’t hold back.

Brady didn’t hesitate for a moment and immediately gave an extremely blunt answer. He said, “Not today.”

“It’s actually quite difficult to go back there these days,” he expanded. “You know where he is and you think, ‘God, I’m going to go see him and I just can’t count on him to stay on his feet.’

“He’s obviously confident that he’s going to do the right thing, but can he make the play? Can he ultimately go out there and execute?”

NFL fans loved Brady’s brutal honesty, with many calling it the best moment of his reporting career to date.

“Tom Brady was not toy around. Cold-blooded lmao,” fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The best moment of Tom Brady’s young broadcasting career just happened,” said another. “After the Cowboys’ rookie WR slips up, leading to an INT, Burkhardt wonders if Prescott should go back to the rookie WR to build trust.”
