Research shows that intermittent fasting is a way to manage weight and improve overall health.

Carol previously shared that she is a big proponent of detoxing twice a year. It reduces inflammation, purifies your blood, stimulates circulation and helps with weight loss.

Carol wrote in her book Detox Your Life that she never counts calories and that she goes on a detox twice a year.

She wrote: ‘The detox is not about counting calories or fat units, it is about being aware of the types of food we put into our bodies. It is about eating more, not less.’

She recently revealed that she hasn’t weighed herself in 24 years and shared the secret to her incredible figure.

Carol said she went on a 28-day detox diet in 1999 after “gaining some weight” and admitted she hasn’t stepped on the scale since.

She said she doesn’t let doctors tell her what she weighs when she goes for a medical checkup, and she also admitted her views on her diet: she doesn’t cook at home.

Speaking of the Table manners podcast, Carol explained: ‘Go back to when I was in my thirties and my husband Paddy, who I loved and adored, we were into pasta and things like that, but I worked really hard and I got to the point where I was just eating to stay alive and stay awake.

Carol explained that she fasts intermittently and carries the raw vegetables in her purse to snack on throughout the day.

‘And I gained some weight and I didn’t like it. So I started this detox diet. It was criticized by nutritionists at the time because it was a 28-day detox diet. No meat, no wheat, no dairy, no sugar, for 28 days.

“Back then it was all ‘no you can’t do that’. Now it’s standard. This was 28 days to give all your organs a way to detox naturally.

‘(I was) super high on vegetables, not potatoes. I don’t buy regular potatoes anymore because of the detox – everything I bought has changed.

‘After the detox diet, I haven’t weighed myself since 1999 – I don’t know what I weigh. I don’t let anyone tell me what I weigh – you know when you go to the doctor. And generally, I eat pretty well at home.

‘But if someone has bought me chocolate or something like that, I eat it first before I go to the vegetables, so that I don’t have it in the house.

“I’m very happy. That’s all I’ve experienced in 20 years.”
