Incredible behind-the-scenes footage has revealed former Premier League striker Charlie Austin losing his cool with a Brisbane Roar team-mate during a grueling first half against Melbourne City.

Austin, 33, moved to the A-League side after leaving Queen’s Park Rangers last season, with the Englishman tasked with putting Warren Moon’s side on the table after a disappointing 2021-22 campaign.

But last Friday they faced a tough challenge in the reigning tiny Premiers City, with Patrick Kisnorbo taking a 2-0 lead at halftime at Suncorp Stadium.

And it was a bad half for Roar defender Connor Chapman, who was to blame for both of the visitors’ goals.

First he unnecessarily conceded a corner from star striker Jamie Maclaren to score, before committing a foul in his own penalty area to give City a penalty, which Maclaren gratefully punched into the back of the net.

Watching from across the field, an enraged Austin took matters into his own hands and footage of KeepUp’s A-League All Access Series showed how he launched an X-rated spray on his teammate during intermission.

‘Game management? F*** me,’ he begins. “Hey Chappo… Chappo! The ball is running out, don’t kick it out, it’s our damn goal kick.

‘Look out, suck it in! Get damn dirty! You gave away a damn corner [and] they score! You missed the first, you missed the damn second.

“And then the guy chops back and you’re dangling your goddamn leg. What the hell are you doing man! They do that in the [Under] 12s man, this is professional football. Damn hell. Defend yourself!’

But Chapman was unwilling to take the spray on the chin and berated the veteran striker for his lack of movement on the other side – after failing to achieve a menacing lowering in the opening 45 minutes.

“Be the damn goalscorer, then score a damn goal. He cuts it back, there’s no one there. You are in no rush. You won’t fucking finish there!’

Austin replied simply, “It’s not hard, it’s just f***ing defending.”

After the match, which Roar lost 2-0, the pair were seen shaking hands and having a friendly chat over things that appeared to have been patched up.

Reflecting on the failure, Austin said, “I wouldn’t be like that if I didn’t care.

“I probably should have shown it better. Connor’s been around so I’d like to think it’s not the first Barney he’s had in the locker room with anyone, so we’re just moving on now.”

Austin has yet to score for his new club after four appearances.
