Aussie man’s disappointment after forking out for a harbour view hotel suite in Sydney: ‘Are they having a laugh’

An Australian man is furious after paying extra for a harbour view suite during a staycation in Sydney, only to find the view was ‘extremely disappointing’.

Patrick Clifton was excited to spend time with the water view – but instead ended up in a room with a ‘little glimpse’ of the harbour.

“So I book a room and they say I have a view of Darling Harbour, but look, what the hell is this, mate,” he said in a video.

‘Hey, enjoy your view of the ICC Sydney.

‘Enjoy the view of the oldest building in the world.’

He shared a video taken from inside the room showing office buildings, a tennis court and city streets with only a small part of the world-famous harbour visible from one side.

The angry Australian continued to depict the cityscape with its office buildings, an industrial-looking block and a swimming pool, becoming increasingly frustrated.

He left his fans in no doubt that he would ask for another room, later reporting that he had been upgraded to a room with a better view and that he was “loving it.”

Part of the view from Patrick’s hotel room looked out onto what he called the “oldest building in the world,” and another part showed only a small patch of water.

While many people found the breakdown “hilarious,” most couldn’t understand what he was so angry about in the first place.

“I’m so confused. That’s Darling Harbour,” said one.

“I mean, technically you have a view of the harbor,” added another.

“Darling Harbour isn’t that pretty,” said a third.

Others who found the view disappointing said Patrick had probably opted for one of the hotel’s cheaper rooms.

“You got what you paid for!” said one.

And another insisted it wasn’t worth getting so upset about the view.

“First world problems,” she said.

Others accused the hotels of exaggerating the views to charge more for their rooms.

“That happens every time,” someone said.

“Always read the reviews,” added another.
