Strictly’s Nick Knowles reveals he’s ‘hopeful’ he can continue in the competition as he gives an update on his injured arm – as his future on the show remains in doubt

Strictly Come Dancing star Nick Knowles has told how he ‘hopes’ he can stay in the competition after his injured arm put his future on the show in jeopardy.

Earlier on Monday, the 62-year-old DIY SOS star revealed he injured his arm while changing a tire on his car on Sunday after breaking down on the highway.

He was later seen with his arm in a sling as he went to a doctor on Harley Street for a scan with his fiancée Katie Dadzie.

Nick gave an update on his injury on Monday night in conversation with It Takes Two host Janette Manrara, saying he is still waiting for information from doctors to see if he can continue on the show.

Nick spoke to Janette (40) and her professional partner Luba Mushtuk (34). He explained how he got his injury. He said he hurt his arm when he wanted to quickly change a tire after breaking down on the highway on the way to his birthday party with his son.

Nick explained that the pain initially only got worse after he injured his bicep and arm, with the presenter saying that he ended up missing his own party due to the breakdown.

While Janette wondered if he could continue with the show, Nick said: ‘I’m hopeful, I’ll know more tomorrow.

‘I expect to be able to train again and hopefully I will be there again on Saturday evening.’

The presenter made his Strictly debut on Saturday alongside his professional partner Luba Mushtuk.

Nick still had his arm in a protective sling when he went out with his bride-to-be earlier in the day, but there are fears that he will pull out of the show due to his injury.

In a video shared on Monday, Nick said he was heading to a Harley Street clinic to have a scan, hoping to update fans on the condition of his injury ahead of his appearance on It Takes Two that evening.

But he promised that ‘nothing would stop him from dancing’ ahead of the second live show this weekend.

Nick shared a video of his arm in a sling and said: ‘I thought I would give a little update. I am in a sling and it is because my car broke down on the side of the motorway.

My little boy [was] in the car, so I wanted to change the tire as quickly as possible, to make sure we were safe.

‘And while I was trying to get the wheel off as quickly as possible, because there was a big wheel on my big car, I lightly hit my shoulder and arm.

‘I don’t know exactly how or what but it’s been quite painful. Although it’s a bit better this morning, I’m on my way to London to Harley Street to get a scan and some top medical advice, but I’m on my way to training afterwards so I can learn the steps for my next dance.

‘And I’ll see you later today on It Takes Two where I’ll hopefully have more information and be able to update you, but I’ll keep you updated throughout the day. Not ideal, but I’m confident that nothing will stop me from dancing this weekend.’

During his first performance on Strictly, Nick and Luba scored 18 points with their jive danced to We Built This City by Starship.

Nick stayed true to his roots during his jive to We Built This City, wearing a sparkly orange reflective vest, closing out the number with a disco ball-esque construction worker’s helmet.

“You’re as happy as I am that it turned out this way, aren’t you?” Anton said to Nick after the ball was over.

However, Craig was booed for calling the performance “pigeon-like, stiff and flat-footed.”

For his debut performance, Nick received a three from Craig and fives from Motsi, Shirley and Anton.
