‘Online banking, debit cards, credit cards, ATMs, telephone banking services and branch banking are not affected and customers can continue to use these services as normal.’

According to consumer rights campaigner Which?, a banking app outage is usually the result of an IT failure or a maintenance update.

It advises all affected customers to contact their branch, either by phone or in person, especially if you need urgent access to your funds.

Which? says: ‘If there is no bank branch nearby or no transport to get there, try calling your bank and ask for advice on what to do.

‘If the bank’s phone service is also down or the phone lines are busy, contact your bank via social media to ask what to do. However, never share your account details via social media.

‘If for any reason you suffer financial loss because you were unable to access your money, you may be entitled to compensation.’
