Magnitude 3.0 earthquake rocks regional NSW as dozens report feeling a tremor

A magnitude 3.0 earthquake has been recorded in regional New South Wales.

The earthquake was recorded at 3.27pm on Monday at a depth of 1km near Muswellbrook, in the Upper Hunter region.

The earthquake occurred at the shallow depth of a kilometers below the epicenter, causing shock waves felt by locals.

More than a dozen residents reported feeling a tremor, with 22 people reporting it to Geoscience Australia.

There may be some light rumbling in towns such as Muswellbrook, Denman and Aberdeen.

Others further from the epicentre, such as Scone, Singleton Heights, Branxton and Cessnock, would probably not have noticed anything.

Its exact size, epicentre and depth are yet to be determined by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre in the coming hours.
