You’ve probably heard of backyard cricket pitches, but one football fan has taken his passion to a whole new level with a dedicated pitch at the MCG.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground will host the AFL Grand Final between the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions this Saturday.
That’s why one lawn enthusiast decided to prepare his garden as perfectly as possible, by recreating the MCG in an incredible feat of landscaping.
The massive effort is the brainchild of Nick Bransgrove, a social media phenomenon who runs the TikTok page Lawnsingoodnick and other social media channels that he hopes will “get people off social media and into the garden.”
In the video, he meticulously mows the perfect crisscross stripes in his garden, marks the boundary and 50-meter lines, assembles the goalposts and even arranges sponsorship along the sidelines.
“My epic plan came to life,” Bransgrove posted.

Bransgrove fires a goal in his backyard at the Melbourne Cricket Ground tribute he created ahead of Grand Final day
The MCG is Australia’s most iconic football and cricket ground and will host the Grand Final between the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions on Saturday
In the video clip of the construction of the MCG’s home stadium, Bransgrove commentated on some highlights of the biggest moments in AFL Grand Final history, including James Hird, Jason Akermanis, Steele Sidebottom, Dom Sheed, Heath Shaw, Dustin Martin, Shane Crawford, Leo Barry and Alex Jesaulenko.
He also recorded audio from iconic commentators including James Brayshaw, Brian Taylor, Sandy Roberts, Bruce McAvaney, Steven Quartermain, Mike Williamson, Anthony Hudson and Dennis Cometti.
It was a labor of love that left football fans amazed.
“Backyard cricket is one thing, but backyard football is on a whole other level,” wrote one follower.
“Put the big screen on it and you’ll have a good field to watch the final,” said another.
“It’s especially in times like these that it’s really worth having this app,” one TikTok user posted.
“Then it’s time for the grand finale at your house… my kids are going to be over the moon when they see this,” wrote another, inviting himself to the big day.
