Petra Ecclestone was photographed looking chic after a dinner in Santa Monica on Saturday night, having spoken out on Wednesday about the worrying fear of skin cancer.

The 35-year-old F1 heiress looked stylish in a long-sleeved knitted black sweater, teamed with smart grey wide-leg trousers.

The model wore a sleek black stiletto and matching handbag, while keeping her blonde locks neat with a headband.

Petra was spotted leaving Muse restaurant after enjoying a lavish meal with her husband and real estate agent Sam Palmer, 39.

On Friday, the socialite posted a message on Instagram reassuring her fans of her recovery and thanking them for the overwhelming support.

She filmed herself giving an update on the surgery, still wearing a bandage on her head, saying: ‘Good morning everyone, I’ve had loads of messages.

‘I think it was a terrifying sight, with my head bandaged.

“I only posted this because I want to warn people about sun exposure and to protect themselves properly.”

Petra tried to raise awareness by continuing to talk about her own experiences. She said that until recently she did not attach much importance to protecting her skin.

In her latest clip she wrote: ‘Thank you to everyone who reached out to me yesterday about my story.

‘I’m doing well and on the mend, but this is your reminder to take your sun damage seriously… please wear sunscreen and avoid tanning beds at all costs!’

Earlier this week, the heiress first caused a stir after sharing a selfie of her head wrapped in a bandage.

The media star wore no makeup in the Instagram snap and pouted in her pajamas.

Petra captioned the photo: “Guys, stay out of the sun. I wish I knew more about it when I was younger and the dangers of it. Please wear SPF and a hat every day.”

The mother of three did not comment on what had happened. MailOnline has contacted Petra’s representatives for comment.

One of the biggest risks of not using SPF is overexposure to UV rays, which leads to premature skin aging and damage that can cause skin cancer.

The NHS encourages everyone to use a minimum of SPF 30 protection.

Regular users of sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher can halve their risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, research shows.

Each year, approximately 15,000 Britons and 100,000 Americans are diagnosed with melanoma, the most common form of skin cancer.

Melanomas often grow quickly and can quickly spread through the skin and into the blood vessels beneath.

Once the cancer cells enter the bloodstream, the disease can spread throughout the body.

Surgery is the main treatment for melanoma. Radiation therapy, drugs and chemotherapy are also sometimes used.

HOW TO STAY SAFE IN THE SUN

Sunburn increases the risk of skin cancer.

It can happen abroad or in the UK.

To stay safe in the sun, experts recommend the following:

  • Seek shade between 11am and 3pm, as this is when the sun’s rays are usually at their strongest
  • Wear at least SPF 30 sunscreen
  • Apply sunscreen for 30 minutes, and again just before UV exposure.
  • If necessary, choose a water-resistant sunscreen and reapply after swimming, sweating or using a towel.
  • Cover yourself with protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
  • Take extra care with babies and young children. Babies under six months should be kept out of direct sunlight.
  • Do not use sunbeds or sunlamps
  • Checks moles and skin for any changes
