Leandro Trossard controversially sent off against Man City as he becomes the second Arsenal player to see red for kicking the ball away this season

Leandro Trossard became the second Arsenal player to be sent off in the Premier League this season after being sent off just before half-time in Sunday’s match against Manchester City.

Trossard was shown a yellow card in the 34th minute for a tactical foul on Savinho, but it was his second yellow card that caused the most outrage.

Like Declan Rice against Brighton last month, Trossard was given a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

The Belgian committed a foul on Bernardo Silva in the eighth minute of injury time in the first half, after which he cleared the ball.

Referee Michael Oliver had already blown his whistle, however, and was therefore convinced that Trossard was deliberately trying to delay the restart, something that officials had to keep a close eye on during the pre-season briefings.

More to come.
