He became an overnight sensation after posing for popular underwear brand aussieBum.

And Matty Wilson is still the figurehead of the Australian men’s swimwear and underwear manufacturer, more than 10 years after his muscular physique was first seen on billboards and buses across the country.

He has since branched out into acting and co-founded a surprising new company last year.

The 36-year-old became the face of the brand after winning Tradie of the Year in 2010 and modelling as Australia’s ‘Diet Coke Hunk’.

Matty said his rise to fame began when he worked as a craftsman and his friend told him there was a competition for an underwear advertisement – which eventually led to his successful career as a soap star and model.

After his mother took photos of him and sent them to him, he soon became a model for the underwear brand aussieBum.

‘The next day we got a phone call saying, “Are you free next Monday?” So we went to AussieBum headquarters and seven days later we opened the Sunday paper and there was a whole page of me in it,’ he said. Nine Honey until 2022.

After finding success as a model, he went on to star as Aaron Brennan in the Australian soap opera Neighbours in 2015. He made history when he married David Tanaka (played by actor Takaya Honda), the first gay marriage on Australian television.

Their characters married in the series in 2018, shortly after same-sex marriage was legalized in Australia in 2017.

Magda Szubanski, an outspoken advocate for the gay, lesbian and transgender community, played the role of master of ceremonies.

“That was the most iconic moment of my career,” he said.

‘It was a hugely important story for our characters and it became even more important when the Australian government legalized gay marriage.

“I think it happened the day before or after the broadcast. It was pure coincidence.”

Matty has since co-founded a company that produces cold baths and ice baths The Dopewho sell restorative ice baths, saunas and leg compression boots.

The brand’s popular products are purposefully designed and are more affordable than most cold baths, without the long delivery times.

Last year, Matty welcomed his second child with his wife Jessica.

The actor shared several photos of their adorable newborn baby and of Jessica’s water birth.

“A new member has been added to our group,” the couple wrote in the post, while keeping the baby’s gender a secret.

The couple even shared a short video capturing their little one’s first breath.

In 2021, the lovebirds welcomed their first child, a boy. They kept their pregnancy a secret until they announced the birth.

The news clearly came as a shock to many of the couple’s friends and followers, with Survivor star Brooke Jowett writing, “Oh my god whaaaaaat????” on Jessica’s post.

In 2019, he and Jessica also surprised their fans by posting photos from the couple’s modest wedding.

“Forever,” Matt captioned the post, which shows the newlyweds in Hawaiian-patterned outfits.
