Boxing champion reveals Anthony Joshua’s ‘serious weapon’ going into Daniel Dubois fight but insists his rival still poses a ‘big’ threat

  • But he hasn’t ruled out Dubois and thinks he could cause big problems

A former opponent of Anthony Joshua believes he has a “serious weapon” that he can use to his advantage during his heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois tonight.

Joshua, 34, hopes to become a three-time world champion when he takes on his compatriot at Wembley Stadium in front of 96,000 fans.

He has won his last four fights, including one-punch knockout victories over Robert Helenius and Francis Ngannou.

And former British champion and world title challenger Dillian Whyte – who lost to Joshua in 2015 – believes his devastating right hand could make the difference in tonight’s match, especially after Dubois was hit with the same blow several times in his last outing against Filip Hrgovic.

“Dubois took a lot of damage against Filip Hrgovic and didn’t make the changes to counter that as quickly as possible,” Whyte told BetMGM’s The LineUp, as quoted by World Boxing News.

“He showed that he could overcome a lot in that fight. He showed that he could take a lot of punches and still keep going, but he had to worry about the punches he took.

“If you’re an AJ fan or in his camp, you have to look at it as a positive. You can only knock him off so many times before one knocks you down, and Dubois knows that.

“I don’t know how much you can learn from AJ’s recent fights because Dubois is on a whole other level. All we know is he’s got that right hand and it’s still a serious weapon.”

It will be a big test for Dubois to face Joshua’s fearsome power, but he proved his worth against Hrgovic.

Dubois is almost eight years younger than Joshua and Whyte believes the younger, fresher man could win if he can push Joshua into the later rounds.

“I really hope he turns up and takes on AJ because that’s when AJ comes into action,” Whyte added.

‘Daniel is prepared to take a tough turn and if he can take a few knocks early and keep it up, I think he could give AJ some big problems, given his age.’
