New Orleans Saints fans joke that the team’s success has helped the city’s murder rate drop dramatically

New Orleans Saints fans jokingly credit the team for the city’s recent murder rate drop.

On Thursday, WDSU reported that Crescent City has gone 18 days without a murder, the longest stretch since they began keeping records in 2019.

The Saints start the NFL season 2-0. Two weeks later, the black and gold teams have won against the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys. As a result, fans believe that the team is living up to its name by bringing peace to the city with its victories.

“Derek Carr is dropping the murder rate,” one fan wrote with two praying emojis and a photo of the quarterback holding a Bible.

“People might think this is crazy,” said a second. “But I can tell you as a New Orleanian, this is directly related to the Saints winning. Crazy, but true.”

‘Facts,’ a third responded to the earlier tweet. ‘When the Saints play well, there is a different atmosphere in the city. People are friendlier and happier. Walk with your chest held high. Gives the city hope.’

Another fan pointed to the team’s offensive coordinator, proverb: ‘Klint Kubiak heals the city.’

“Fun fact. During our 2009 Super Bowl season, they ran a crime stat for New Orleans while the Saints were playing,” added a fifth. “Crime went down about 98 percent. So even criminals were like, ‘Let’s rob them later, the Saints are playing now.'”

“I remember reading about a study with sports teams and cities and how things went when the team lost and won,” a sixth user claimed. “Not crazy at all. Saints literally heal the city when they win.”
