Thompson was identified by police and arrested at his home address in Kitts Green, where he subsequently became abusive towards officers and racially abused them.

On September 9, he pleaded guilty at Birmingham District Court to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

Thompson was also charged with possession of class B drugs, two counts of using threatening language and behaviour and two counts of racially aggravated harassment.

His sentence will be announced at Birmingham Crown Court on October 7.

Detective Constable Peta Haynes, of Birmingham Police, said: ‘This case understandably caused outrage when the video was shared on social media. Officers were able to quickly identify the offender and bring him to justice.

‘This was a very traumatic incident for the woman, who was simply walking her dog when Thompson verbally abused and kicked her in an unprovoked attack.

Thompson also racially abused our officers during his arrest.

“Our officers risk their lives every day to protect our communities. This level of abuse is simply unacceptable.”

‘We want to send a clear message to people that this type of behaviour is unacceptable and that measures will be taken.’
