Maureen Lipman, 78, announces engagement to boyfriend David Turner, 78, and reveals SHE proposed
Maureen Lipman has announced her engagement to her boyfriend and business advisor David Turner.
The 78-year-old Coronation Street legend revealed she was the one who proposed to her partner, also 78, while trying to make a joke on a train journey.
Maureen wrote in the Spectator: ‘Later that evening my partner David and I decided to tell our children that, now that we are 156 years old together, we are getting married.
‘Unable to resist the gag, I slid under the table, got on one knee and asked for his hand. To my surprise and slight panic, he gave it to me.’
The star first mentioned David in the fall of 2023, when she said she was bringing a “gentleman friend” to that year’s National Television Awards.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Express She said, “I’m going with my friend David.”
The star spoke about her search for love at the age of 77 and was overjoyed to be able to share her life with a partner.
She said, “It’s a gift for everyone involved. It’s a gift and he’s very nice. I’ve met some nice men in my life, some really interesting men, and we’ll see where it goes.”
They made their public debut at the Oldie Of The Year Awards in November.
At the event, Maureen proudly said of David, “That’s my other half.”
The actress was married to television screenwriter Jack Rosenthal for 30 years, until his death in 2004.

She then dated Italian businessman Guido Castro for 13 years, before he passed away in 2021.
Maureen, originally known from Educating Rita, is now best known for her role as the grandmother of the famous character Tyrone Dobbs in Corrie.
Maureen has been playing the role of Evelyn Plummer, the mother of addict Cassie Plummer, in the Manchester soap series since 2018.
She won two awards for this role: Best Newcomer from the Inside Soap Awards and Best Comedic Performance from the British Soap Awards.
