Maths teacher allegedly sexually abused four little girls he was tutoring including two sisters aged three and six
A maths teacher isolated young girls in their parents’ home so he could abuse them, a judge has heard.
Quy Huy Hoang is accused of sexually abusing four girls while tutoring them at their homes in Sydney’s south-west between May 2011 and July 2014.
Assisted by a Vietnamese interpreter, the 76-year-old pleaded not guilty at Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court on Thursday to four charges of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 and four charges of indecent assault on a child under 16.
Hoang abused the trust three families had placed in him to teach their daughters, prosecutor Alex Morris said during the opening of the trial, which was attended only by the judge.
Between May 2011 and March 2013, he allegedly abused two sisters, one between the ages of three and five and the other between the ages of six and seven.
After the girls experienced several family tragedies, the girls’ mother received a phone call saying that Hoang had heard about their situation and wanted to help.
He gave the sisters free tutoring. At first he taught the girls in the dining room, but later he convinced their mother that it would be quieter in the toy room of their house.
“The reason Mr Hoang made this suggestion was that he wanted the privacy of another room so he could have the opportunity to commit the sexual abuse,” Mr Morris told Judge Penelope Hock.
Quy Huy Hoang is accused of sexually abusing four girls while tutoring them at their homes in Sydney’s south-west between May 2011 and July 2014.
The teacher is accused of stealing cream from a black briefcase and using it to digitally penetrate one of the sisters.
On the same occasion, he kissed the girl on the lips and made her “pinkie promise” not to tell her mother, Morris said.
That girl was separately forced to touch the teacher’s genitals, the court was told.
Her sister was assaulted when Hoang sexually touched her through her pajamas, the prosecutor said.
After the girls’ mother reported the incident to police, the teacher was arrested in August 2014 during a Catholic church service.
During a house search, police found a black briefcase full of math exercises, as well as Vaseline, creams and lip balm.
According to Morris, one of the lip balm jars contained a substance chemically identical to the personal lubricant KY Jelly.
Hoang pleaded not guilty to four charges of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 and four charges of sexual assault on a child under 16
On his mobile phone, police found a number of photos of children, including the four alleged victims.
Hoang is accused of sexually abusing another girl and her school friend, both seven years old, between March and July 2014.
He convinced the mother of one of the girls to tutor them in her son’s bedroom, and she had a door lock and blackout curtains installed in the room.
Hoang allegedly forced a girl to touch his penis and then digitally penetrated her.
He touched the other girl on the outside of her pants and digitally penetrated her, causing her to burst into tears, Morris said.
“I don’t want to do it, I don’t want to be here,” the girl is said to have said when her mother asked what was going on.
The trial continues on Friday.
