Boy, 11, dies subway surfing in Brooklyn as the daredevil act claims lives of four people this year
An 11-year-old boy has tragically died after falling off a train while surfing on the subway in Brooklyn.
The child, whose identity has not yet been released, died Monday while surfing on the roof of a G train in Park Slope.
This dangerous trend has already cost three people their lives this year.
According to the FDNY, the horrific incident happened around 10:15 a.m. near the 4th Avenue 9th Street station.
Witnesses told the NYPD that the boy fell off the train and onto the tracks.

Video footage taken after the incident shows officers picking up a backpack from the train tracks where the child had fallen. Officers were also seen carrying a covered stretcher onto the platform.
Service on the F and G trains was disrupted while the NYPD conducted an investigation at the Brooklyn station.
“I hope other kids who are thinking about this will think twice,” said Brian, a Brooklyn resident, FIGURE 11.
After the death of the last resident, Mayor Eric Adams went to X to pay his last respects.
“It is heartbreaking to hear that another life has been cut short by subway surfing. I send my prayers to the family of this young New Yorker.
“We will continue to do everything we can to discourage this dangerous activity, but we need everyone to join our efforts. Through our #RideInsideStayAlive campaign, we will continue to work to keep our children safe,” Adams said.
Last year, the MTA launched the “Ride inside, stay alive” campaign, warning of the dangers of subway surfing after numerous children were injured or killed.
This is the fourth subway surfer death in 2024 and the youngest victim to die from this daredevil act.

Lennox DeCruz, the teen’s grandfather, told the newspaper he does not believe his grandson was alone that fateful day.
Let’s say he was [subway] surfing. He wouldn’t have gone by himself. If he had friends with him, they wouldn’t have stayed. They didn’t hang around after he fell,” DeCruz said.
His grandfather said that his grandson also had two broken legs.
According to police, it is unclear whether Bhagwandeen died after being hit by another train or after falling onto the tracks.
A GoFundMe page was launched to raise money for his memorial service following his sudden passing.
Just a month earlier, an unidentified 13-year-old boy was killed while subway surfing in the Bronx.
He was killed when he hit the roof of a northbound No. 6 train at the Middletown Road station in Pelham Bay, the NYPD said.
The deceased child suffered head injuries, among other things.

His heartbroken half-brother later revealed that the teen followed multiple accounts that posted photos and videos of people subway surfing around the city.
“Now that you go to his social media, you see who he follows and who his friends are,” Diego Tinoco said Daily news.
‘When you see the videos people post about subway surfing, you realize it’s too late.
“He was a nice guy, he had a lot of friends, but he moved in the wrong circles.”
Tinoco said his brother skipped class that day at Landmark High School in Chelsea and went subway surfing with a friend.
The friend continued on to the next stop after Reyes fell at the elevated Avenue N station in Midwood, above McDonald Avenue.
