No, Windows 11 24H2 is unfortunately not about to arrive β Microsoft’s heavy hint to that effect turned out to be a mistake
Earlier today, some reports were buzzing about the possibility that Microsoft had accidentally dropped the release date for Windows 11 24H2 and that the update was imminent. That is not the case.
This originally came from Ghacksthat one blog post written by Microsoft, intended for IT professionals, on the topic of improved data protection with Windows and Copilot.
In that post, Microsoft said that Copilot-related updates will be βaligned with the annual Windows 11 feature update release,β which clearly means Windows 11 24H2. And weβre told that those Copilot updates would arrive in preview on September 24, 2024, with the full release on October 8.
So, the conclusion was quickly (and understandably) that the Windows 11 24H2 update should also arrive on October 8th, if the release of both 24H2 and these Copilot-related updates were aligned as Microsoft told us. All very simple, right? Well, no…
Mistakes were made
Microsoft just updated the blog post to state in clear terms: βThe dates below are for our regular monthly servicing updates for supported versions of Windows 11, and have nothing to do with when Windows 11, version 24H2 will be generally available.β
The mention of the adjustment to the annual update for Windows 11 has been removed from the message. Microsoft clearly made a mistake here (although it does not explicitly admit it).
When it eventually arrives, Windows 11 24H2 will bring with it a number of new features, including Wi-Fi 7 support (which will only be useful if your PC and router hardware also support it), and some handy changes on the AI ββfront. That includes Copilot becomes an appwhich allows you to resize the window and move the assistant around the desktop.
