Guess who! Big Aussie pop star looks unrecognisable as he resurfaces to perform during Olympic celebration in New Zealand

An Australian-New Zealand pop star resurfaced on Wednesday when he took to the stage at Blake Park in Tauranga.

Stan Walker, who has kept a low profile in recent years, performed at the New Zealand women’s sevens Olympic celebration.

He wowed the crowd as he performed some of his biggest pop and R&B hits while wearing the gold medal won by the women’s rugby team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The 33-year-old Loud hitmaker wore a gray Earls Collection tracksuit, worth $325, for the celebratory occasion.

Stan covered his head with a black beanie that matched his shoes and completed his casual look with large silver earrings.

Stan spent much of his childhood in New Zealand and Australia, before rising to fame in 2009 after winning the seventh season of Australian Idol.

The singer made headlines in October 2019 when he revealed he had his stomach removed after being diagnosed with stomach cancer two years earlier.

Talking about BUILD Series SydneyStan said he followed a strict diet and received a B12 injection every six weeks after undergoing surgery in September 2017.

“My body forced me to be healthy,” he said.

Stan is gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant and cannot eat fat.

“Honestly, it’s painful. I love food. I love fast food and I love piles of food. I can’t eat fast, I have to take my time or I’ll get sick or throw up on stage,” he said.

On a positive note, Stan felt ‘more energetic’ after the operation.

In 2017, the songwriter was diagnosed with the rare cancer-causing gene CDH1, which has already claimed the lives of 25 family members.

In May 2018, he told Ny Breaking Australia that he was focusing on the future.

“Now I’m going to live my best life and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I achieve my dreams and not just sit around waiting for someone else to tell me I can do this now,” he said.

Stan is still pursuing his musical career after winning Australian Idol in 2009 when he was only 18 years old.

He won against rock chick runner-up Hayley Warner.
