Stefanos Tsitsipas’s mum reveals she took Paula Badosa’s side when the power couple split earlier this year… before the pair reconciled three weeks later

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ mother has admitted she stood by Paula Badosa when the couple briefly split earlier this year.

Tsitsipas and Badosa, both 26, first started dating in May 2023, but the latter announced their split on Instagram in May 2024.

The tennis couple reconciled three weeks later and Tsitsipas’ mother, Julia Apostoli, has hinted that she played a role in their renewed relationship.

“Stefanos is happy, that’s the most important thing,” she told the Greek talk show To Proino“If he’s happy, I’m happy.”

“There was a difficult time when they broke up, but now they are in love. I was by Paula’s side, we talked and that’s how they found each other again.”

The couple have gone from strength to strength since their reconciliation, winning an exhibition match in mixed doubles in New York last month

The couple, who have been given the nickname ‘Tsitsidosa’, have gone from strength to strength since getting their relationship back on track. Last month they won a mixed doubles event in New York, taking home a £250,000 prize.

Both players have had their own problems of late, with Badosa admitting that doctors told her to stop playing tennis last year after she suffered a number of injuries.

Since then she has gone from strength to strength, reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open this month, where she was knocked out by her favourite Emma Navarro.

Meanwhile, Tsitsipas is still trying to reach his full potential and remains in contention for his first Grand Slam, after losing the finals of the French Open and Australian Open in 2021 and 2023 respectively.

This summer, he fired his father as coach after claiming he was “not very smart or good.” His mother has revealed the decision was a long time coming, but insisted it had not affected their personal relationship.

“He is a professional and although he loves his father very much, he understands that he has to find another coach,” Apostoli explains.

‘Since 2020, when he lost at the US Open, we have been saying with Apostolos that Stefanos should change his coach. But four years passed and Stefanos achieved good results.

“Of course I think that Apostolos and Stefanos haven’t had such a good relationship since then. They had conflicts. And that’s why Stefanos decided to change coaches. We don’t see it as a tragedy. We are all together and we are a close family.”
