Tragic find in search for missing fisherman

Police have found the body of a 49-year-old fisherman on a beach after he went missing at sea.

Early on Wednesday morning, police and SES resumed a search and rescue operation for Adam Muir at Kurrimine Beach, about 100km south of Cairns on the Cassowary Coast.

Mr Muir was reported missing at 2.30pm on Tuesday after he failed to return from a fishing trip.

Searchers found the man’s boat about 8km north of the Kurrimine Beach boat ramp.

Initial investigation revealed that the man had left the dock before his boat broke down.

Mr. Muir was found dead on the beach a short distance away.

It is believed that Mr. Muir encountered heavy weather and was swept out to sea, where he drowned.

Police have indicated that they do not consider the death suspicious.

Queensland Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

There was no evidence to suggest Mr Muir had been attacked by a crocodile, the Cairns message.

Online, Kurrimine residents expressed sadness at Mr Muir’s passing.

Many expressed their condolences to the man’s family and friends, while others thanked police and SES staff for the swift search.
