A British teenager is in a critical condition after nearly drowning at a water park in Mallorca.

The 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital late this afternoon after the shocking incident at the Hidropark water park in Alcudia.

Guardia Civil motorcyclists rode ahead of the ambulance to ensure the man could get to hospital as quickly as possible.

Sources at the 061 emergency services report that the incident occurred around 4pm, when they received a report of a serious drowning death at the water park in Alcudia.

An ambulance arrived at the scene and the medical team determined that the patient was in critical condition. He was then transferred to the nearby hospital in Son Espases.

Given the seriousness of the victim’s condition, the Guardia Civil has declared a “green alert”. This is a special operation in which the various patrols have closed traffic at the main intersections where the ambulance had to pass, so that it could pass unhindered.

According to the island’s Cronica Balear newspaper, the 15-year-old is a British national.

Their report states: ‘The minor was knocked unconscious when he fell from one of the slides and hit his head.’

And their report continues: ‘The boy was knocked unconscious by the crash and once in the pool he sank to the bottom.’

‘Lifeguards quickly rescued him from the water. Within a few minutes, local police, Guardia Civil, a medicalized ambulance from SAMU 061, a rapid intervention vehicle and a Falck ambulance arrived on the scene.’

‘Upon arrival, the health workers began to resuscitate the child. He regained his pulse, but he was still unconscious. That is why they decided to activate the green alert to take him as quickly as possible in an ambulance to the University Hospital of Son Espases.’

‘For this reason, SAMU 061 contacted the Guardia Civil and the local police so that they could facilitate the circulation of the ambulance.’

An investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened.
