Overzealous cops charge woman with assault after she accidentally sprayed her male neighbor with a water gun

A Canadian woman has been charged with assault after accidentally squirting her neighbour with a water pistol.

Wendy Washik, 58, of Simcoe, Ontario, played with some children at a barbecue celebrating Labour Day weekend on Sept. 1.

“I was trying to figure out how the water gun worked. It’s not like I play with water guns at my age,” she said CTV News‘I wanted to walk through the fence and accidentally hit the neighbor who was standing about a meter away and was mowing the lawn.’

The neighbor, who reportedly had problems with residents on the street on several occasions, then called the police and claimed he had been the victim of physical assault.

When a Norfolk County deputy came to her door, she claimed they wouldn’t listen to her side of the story and ordered her husband to “get his wife out of the backyard.”

The teaching assistant was later charged with assault with a weapon.

The Ontario Provincial Police said in a statement to DailyMail.com that “every situation is unique” and that “everyone has the right to a safe environment.”

β€œThe role of the OPP is to investigate the circumstances in the full context of the call for service and determine the best course of action in accordance with legal responsibilities,” the spokesperson said.

β€œIt would be inappropriate for the OPP to comment on specific details to protect the integrity of the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings,” he added.

Washik said she apologized to the neighbor immediately after the incident.

β€œI cried myself to sleep for nights,” she told the newspaper.

“They didn’t ask me a single question,” she added. “I’m amazed this happened to me.”

Another neighbor, Kirk Stewart, told CTV News that other residents have had problems with this man who called police.

Washik has been temporarily suspended from her job due to the incident and does not expect to be able to return to work until the case is resolved.

Another neighbor, Michael MacConnachie, said the man regularly calls the police for minor problems.

“It’s a recurring problem on the street, the police are at his house for very, very minor issues,” he told CTV News. “We all get along great, we don’t call the police for our other neighbors. It’s always that one person who calls the police.”

A third local resident, Bobbi, told CTV News she and her son avoid the man’s home as much as possible and limit the number of people allowed in their home for fear of police being called.

Washik is now facing financial problems after being suspended.

She does not expect to be able to resume her work until the case is concluded.

The family has hired a lawyer to defend her and has set up a website to raise money to cover costs.

However, the GoFundMe started by her daughter Randi Washik has since been removed after raising approximately CAD $8,820.

The fundraising site has stopped the campaign because it was “technically” not working. [being] β€œA criminal charge,” Randi said.

But the family has received the money they’ve raised so far, Randi told the outlet.

The Washik’s have since started a GiveSendGo campaign to help with legal fees. It raised over $2,000 CAD ($1,600 USD).

A Change.org A campaign has also been set up and has already collected more than 300 of the 500 signatures as of Tuesday morning.

Washik is expected to appear in court on September 24.
