Anna Delvey’s attorney responds to The View’s criticism of the fake heiress joining Dancing With the Stars

Anna Delvey’s attorney is responding to criticism his client received from The View earlier this month after she joined the cast of Dancing With the Stars.

Delvey (born Anna Sorokin), 33, is best known for defrauding wealthy New Yorkers and other institutions of more than $275,000 between 2013 and 2017.

She has spent nearly four years in prison and has paid back all the money she stole from various victims. However, she took issue with The View’s criticism of her appearance on DWTS after she showed off a bejeweled ankle bracelet.

She was cleared by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to appear on DWTS, which Whoopi Goldberg complained about on The View.

During Monday’s episode of The View, host Alyssa Farah Griffin apologized, while Delvey’s attorney Duncan Levin provided a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

During the September 5 broadcast of The View, Goldberg wasn’t the only host to express her disappointment over Delvey’s casting.

Sunny Hostin said: ‘I like it when a joke is made, but when are there consequences for people’s actions?’

The presenter Delvey and her lawyer had the most trouble with was Alyssa Farrah Griffin, who said: “She still owes people money. Scammers will be scammers.”

Delvey took to X (formerly Twitter) the next morning and said: ‘While you are entitled to your own opinion, you should at least get your facts straight. I have served my sentence and paid everyone back in full, over 3 years ago. I look forward to your correction on the radio.’

On Monday, The View hosts revealed they had been approached by Levin, with Griffin reading a corrective statement on camera.

“We recently talked about Anna Delvey, the convicted fraudster. We noted that she’s going to be on Dancing With the Stars and wondered if it’s fair that she’s on the show, since it’s an opportunity that most other convicted criminals and immigrants seeking asylum simply don’t get,” Griffin began.

“After that conversation, we heard from Ms Delvey’s lawyer that he strongly objected to us saying that, quote, ‘she still owes money to people,’” Griffin added.

“He claimed that statement falsely suggests that she still owes restitution to her fraud victims. And he provided a document from the Office of Victim Services that he claims proves, quote, ‘All of Miss Delvey’s restitution has been fully refunded and all victims have been fully compensated,’ end of quote,” she added.

Griffin concluded, “We’re all looking forward to the premiere of the new season of Dancing With the Stars tomorrow night, here on ABC.”

After The View corrected this on air, Levin himself released a statement thanking The View for their statement.

“We are grateful that The View has corrected their false and defamatory statements about Ms. Delvey,” Levin’s statement began.

“Like so many others, Anna has made mistakes and, most importantly, she has made amends by serving both prison terms and paying off all of her debts in full. Anna deserves a second chance and accepts The View’s apology,” Levin concluded.
