Eberechi Eze will be named in England’s preliminary World Cup squad this week as the Crystal Palace forward makes a late run for Qatar.

Eze is back on Gareth Southgate’s radar after an impressive start to the Premier League season with the Selhurst Park club.

Southgate will appoint an expanded roster of up to 55 players, which will be reduced to 26 before the tournament Friday.

And it’s clear that Eze is on track to be named in Southgate’s preliminary match for the World Cup, along with team-mates Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell.

Southgate is a big fan of Eze and has been monitoring his performance for a long time to be able to include him in the senior team.

Indeed, Eze was chosen in Southgate’s preliminary 33-man squad for the European Championship last year, but an Achilles tendon rupture robbed him of the chance to be named in the full match.

But after proving to Southgate that he is over the long-term injury, Eze is back in the international fray.

It remains to be seen whether Eze can do enough to break through into Southgate’s final 26-man roster for Qatar, who are expected to be named on November 10.

There is huge competition in the attacking areas and it is likely that Eze will have to rely on injuries to have a realistic chance of making the final move.

Nevertheless, his re-emergence in Southgate’s thinking is likely to lead to Eze making his first international call sooner rather than later.

Liverpool’s Joe Gomez is also hopeful of being included in the England preliminary squad as Southgate faces a host of injury problems in defence.
