Homicide cops probe the death of an elderly man inside a home in York, WA

A small rural town has been rocked by a murder investigation after an elderly man was found dead in a house.

Emergency services from St John WA were called to a house on Avon Terrace in York in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia at around 7.30am on Sunday after the body of a man was found there.

Two ambulances arrived on the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the 76-year-old man.

Police were alerted and detectives launched an investigation into his death.

Police confirmed that a 63-year-old man, known to the victim, is currently assisting officers with their investigation.

No charges have yet been filed.

York is the oldest inland town in Western Australia and is located 97 km east of Perth. It has a population of almost 2,400.
