Urgent recall for hot dogs that have rogue ingredients

Nearly 900 kilos of Wiener sausage have been recalled because the sausage may contain harmful ingredients that are not listed on the label.

The warning applies to two products from Dearborn Sausage Company of Michigan. These products can be seen on the labels below.

The labels of the two slightly different wiener lines were accidentally swapped during a production run on August 7.

That means both products contained substances that were not listed on the label, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said Thursday.

One had soy, which is an allergen. The other had pork, which people of certain religions are not allowed to eat.

Dearborn Sausage Company accidentally switched the labels of two products. This meant that both products contained ingredients that were not listed on the label. One contained soy, which is an allergen. The other contained pork, which is forbidden to people of certain religions.

The products being recalled bear the establishment number “EST. 10002” in the USDA inspection mark.

These items, which come in 2-pound packages containing ten sausages, were shipped to retail locations in Ohio.

The problem was discovered when Dearborn received a complaint from a retailer who noticed that products they received may have been mislabeled.

Dearborn employees discovered that they had accidentally labeled beef sausages as beef and pork sausages, and vice versa.

The following products are being recalled:

2-lb. vacuum-packed packages of “BROOKSIDE BRAND FULLY COOKED NATURAL CASING BEEF WIENERS” which may contain undeclared pork with lot code A0122024 and can be sold until 11/05/2024

2-lb. vacuum-packed packages of “BROOKSIDE BRAND NATURAL CASING FULLY COOKED WIENERS” which may contain undeclared soy with lot code A0322024 and can be sold until 11/05/2024
