Football star Jeremy Finlayson has got a touching tattoo of his daughter, just days after his cancer-stricken wife Kellie shared heartbreaking news about her battle with the deadly disease.

The 28-year-old Port Adelaide forward shared a series of photos via an Instagram story in a touching tribute to his daughter Sophia Jai.

Her name is now permanently inscribed on his right knee, as is her date of birth: August 19, 2021.

The striking design shows a silhouette of Finlayson throwing his daughter into the air, with the majority of the tattoo showing her holding his pinky with her hand.

It comes shortly after Kellie shared a heartbreaking update on social media earlier this week as she continues to battle stage 4 bowel and lung cancer.

The 28-year-old shared an emotional post on Instagram on Tuesday about how she is coping with her journey.

“For those wondering if I ever cry…yes, I do. Not often and usually because of the added costs that come with a terminal diagnosis,” she posted.

“But then again, I’m only human. There are days when I overpower myself and become a prisoner of my own thoughts.”

She continues: ‘One day I take ten steps forward and the next day I take twelve steps back.

‘I’m positive and grateful to be alive, but some days remind me that this life is so far removed from the life I created in my head as a teenager.

‘Sometimes it sucks. And it feels isolating, I feel alone too, but I know I’m not.’

The couple recently made the sad decision to sell their Adelaide home.

The Port Adelaide star and his influencer wife revealed they were selling their home so they could find a place better suited to provide Kellie with home care.

“This was supposed to be our forever home, but I guess life had other plans,” Kellie said Adelaide now.

‘It was a really nice space to be in, but we found we needed more space because of the number of people we needed around us and the space we needed for equipment and machinery.

“I’m fighting for my life every day. I have every reason to lie down and moan, but there’s no point in doing that.”

In January, Kellie began another six months of chemotherapy, but she had since stopped chemotherapy and radiation treatments to focus on natural therapies and alternative medicine.

However, in June she confirmed that she would likely need to resume chemotherapy to tackle further growth of the cancer as quickly as possible.

“Cancer, especially recurrent cancer, unfortunately grows very quickly. If we see a millimeter of growth on a scan after a few months, we know it’s growing and we need to take action,” she said in a TikTok video.

“Normally I walk out of a meeting with my oncologist and he says we want to watch and wait. That’s not the case today.

“I’m going to see a surgeon and a radiation therapist next week. Just to hear all my options before I possibly start chemotherapy again.”

Kellie says her treatments have slowed the spread of her cancer, but they have missed 100 percent of her first year as a mother to Sophia. Now she faces the prospect of never having children again.

Finlayson said the turmoil of recent years has taken its toll and affected his football career.

In July, he was ruled out of the season after scans confirmed a ruptured spleen.
