Sheffield United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic has cut all ties with his father in a dramatic, public family row, claiming he has done ‘terrible things to people I love’.
Ahmedhodzic, 25, revealed he reluctantly took the drastic step after his father Mirsad bizarrely claimed his son’s wife Marijana had performed “black magic” on him.
The central defender recently retired from Bosnia and Herzegovina and announced his retirement from international football altogether, citing injury, inadequate medical treatment and abuse he received on social media.
His father insisted he “no longer” considered him his son and claimed he had been kept from representing his country by “bad people”.
But Ahmedhodzic has hit back, accusing his father of “manipulation” and “bullying”.

In a statement shared by TV channel N1he said, ‘The only thing a man wants from his father as a son is support and pride. Unfortunately, I got very little of that.
‘Most of the time I was faced with manipulation, lies, scams and almost daily bullying.
“This is the type of man who demonstrates his “power” over women, but has never had the courage to stand up to another man.”
Then he added, “So when he [his father] says I don’t care about my parents, that’s a complete lie. He’s not a man.
“He goes after people I love, every time there’s a problem. He’s done horrible things to people I love, but I don’t want to talk about that here.”

Ahmedhodzic had fiercely defended his partner, saying his father’s claims were “insulting”
Ahmedhodzic, who moved to Bramall Lane from Malmo in 2022, has also fiercely defended his partner in another fierce refutation of his father’s allegations.
“If I say that my wife has done black magic on me, it is a great insult to me and especially to my wife because she is great,” he said.
“It’s very hard to find a woman who takes care of you the way she does and I’m very lucky that my son has such a wonderful mother.
‘And then say he won’t let me go to national team matches? That’s ridiculous.’
Mirsad said earlier: ‘No one is a better friend to my son than his parents, but if he listens to the wrong people, what happens to him will happen.
‘He’s not my son anymore, I don’t consider him my son anymore. I wish him the best.
Mirsad believes his son’s decision to stop playing for Bosnia was influenced by ‘bad people’
‘I fought the entire war and was wounded three times.
“I wanted my son to play for the country I founded with my own blood, but he was rejected by evil people who only think of their own interests.”
Ahmedhozic earned one cap for Sweden in 2020 before switching his allegiance to Bosnia the same year, having represented the country on 24 occasions.
