Roy Keane hails ‘brilliant’ Trent Alexander-Arnold and identifies the Liverpool star’s unique quality as England cruised to victory over Finland at Wembley

Roy Keane was very complimentary about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance in England’s win over Finland.

The Three Lions returned to Wembley for the first time in more than eight years without Gareth Southgate on Tuesday.

Harry Kane captained England for his 100th international appearance, while Lee Carsley again trusted Alexander-Arnold to start on the right side of defence.

The Liverpool star rewarded Carsley’s faith in him with a convincing performance, acting as one of the home side’s key attackers and instigating the first of Kane’s two goals on the night.

Keane stressed after the match that Alexander-Arnold’s death sets him apart from most other footballers in international football.

Champions Leagues iconic anthem set to CHANGE for the new

‘When you give top players time and space with the ball, it obviously depends on their decision-making, the type of passes they make, the speed of the passes.’

‘This pass, not many players can play that. That pass from Trent is absolutely brilliant and effective.’

Alexander-Arnold was consistently sidelined under Southgate and played just two games at Euro 2024, when the former England manager deployed him in midfield.

Carlsey’s reign could herald a new era for the 25-year-old in international football, with the interim manager praising his ability to control the game after the game.

‘We’ve had Trent play in a slightly different position, together with Rico [Lewis]’, said Carsley.

‘You see with Trent that he has an arsenal of passing skills, the ability to control the game from a deeper area and also get into the attacking line.

‘It’s no surprise, I’ve seen Trent do that this season and throughout his career for Liverpool.’
