Joanna Page reveals Gavin & Stacey makes her feel like a ‘pop star’ as huge crowds gather to cheer on actors and catch a glimpse of filming for final ever episode
Joanna Page has revealed that filming Gavin & Stacey made her feel like a ‘pop star’ because of the huge crowds who came to see her.
The 47-year-old Welsh actress, who has played Stacey on the sitcom since 2007, is holed up in a hotel in Wales while the cast film the very last episode.
Speaking from her hotel room on her Off the television podcast – which she presents with EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy – Joanna kept mum on details of the upcoming Christmas special.
But she did talk about what it felt like to see large groups of fans come out to see the actors’ film and the outpouring of support they gave them.
“It’s crazy when you get in the car, get out and the crowd is going ‘Wayyy’ and you really feel like a pop star or something,” she said of filming in Wales.

Joanna shared what it felt like to see so many fans come out to see the actors’ film – and the overwhelming support they gave them
When Natalie asked how it felt to be back filming, Joanna said: ‘Oh my god, it’s so much fun. I’m laughing so much, it’s just crazy, it’s really crazy.
“I mean, we went to the slot machines, I filmed my scenes with Nessa at the slot machines. And it was just made because there were so many people, we were filming and then all of a sudden the beach was full of people coming to watch. It was so beautiful and sweet.”
She added: ‘And there are so many dogs being put down, so I come across all these different little dogs.
“The crowd comes and the fans come. It’s absolutely beautiful because it’s been raining quite a bit lately, but people still come down and stand and watch us. It’s really sweet and they bring little presents and gifts. It’s beautiful.”
Snaps have captured the huge crowds of fans who have turned out to see the cast film in recent weeks, but Joanna said production has put up barriers to ensure some scenes aren’t spoiled.
She said: ‘We recently filmed at Stacey’s house and for the last special there were fences up but they’re quite far apart now, quite far along the road, so you can’t really see what’s going on.
“But it’s weird when you get in the car, get out and the audience goes ‘Weyyy’ and you really feel like a pop star or something.”
Joanna added: ‘I’m enjoying it now because I know afterwards I’m going to go home to my four children and they’re going to say, “Mummy, Mummy, can I have tea, Mummy, I want this, I want that.” So I’m enjoying being cherished because it won’t last long.’

Joanna kept her lips sealed during her hotel room Off The Telly podcast, which she co-hosts with EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy, and did not reveal any details about the upcoming Christmas special.

The Love Actually star was then asked if she could reveal anything about the upcoming special, but she stressed that all details were top secret.
“Everything is so mysterious with her,” Joanna said.
‘I went to Marks & Spencer yesterday to buy some bras and while I was there I had a massage at the hotel and the lady at the desk asked me what hotel I was in and I had to say, “I can’t tell you”. I’m too scared to say anything. I can’t say anything at all.’
Gavin And Stacey fans were in ecstasy when the cast were spotted filming a wedding scene for the highly-anticipated series finale on Tuesday.
After the last Christmas special ended on a cliffhanger involving a proposal, it looked like James Corden’s character Smithy would finally get a happy ending with Ruth Jones’ character Nessa. He was filmed in a wedding suit.
Actor Steffan Rhodri, who plays Nessa’s ex-fiancé Dave Coaches, has made a surprise return to the set, casting doubt on whether Smithy and Nessa will tie the knot after five years of speculation.
Snaps have captured the huge crowds of fans who have turned out to watch the cast film over the past week, but Joanna said production has put up barriers to ensure some scenes aren’t ruined
Steffan, wearing a black leather jacket and a bold patterned shirt, was photographed walking onto set with Julia Davis, who plays Dawn Sutcliffe.
He made his last appearance on Gavin and Stacey at the end of the third season, when Nessa decided she couldn’t go ahead with their wedding.
His surprise return will no doubt have fans concerned that Smithy turned down Nessa’s proposal.
Nessa, who has been noticeably absent from set, was also spotted this week without a ring on her wedding finger, leading to more speculation that the couple will not be tying the knot.
