Former cop reveals Tyreek Hill’s big mistake in arrest – as liberal media goes into meltdown over ‘racism’
A former police officer is accusing Tyreek Hill of lying about the circumstances surrounding his arrest on Sunday for reckless driving.
Hill was pulled from his McLaren and pushed to the ground after being stopped by police for driving 60 mph (96 km/h) on the way to Hard Rock Stadium for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The wideout claims he was mistreated by Miami-Dade police because he is black. He has amplified those claims in left-wing media outlets like CNN, where he shared his perspective on the situation and also spoke out about the Black Lives Matter movement.
But Hill’s story is being criticized by former police officer and conservative social media influencer Brandon Tatum, who laughed when he saw Hill roll up his tinted windows.
Tatum pointed to Hill rolling up his window in front of the police as a problem, saying, “You rolled down your window and rolled your window back up. Why were you mad at them for speeding? Roll down your window.”
Aftermath of Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s arrest continues
Hill was ticketed for reckless driving and driving without a license before a race on Sunday
The police were criticized by the Miami Dolphins organization, who called the video “both maddening and heartbreaking.”
The team pledged to support Hill and called for “swift and forceful action” against the officers who engaged in “excessively aggressive,” “violent” and “despicable” behavior.
Social media reactions to the incident were overwhelmingly in Hill’s favor, with most posts critical of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s handling of the situation and accusing the department of racism.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III reposted the footage, saying, “This level of aggression and demeaning behavior was not necessary. This is an outrageous use of power.”
FOX Sports analyst and former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho also shared the footage, calling it “about as disgusting as you’d expect.”
In another post, Acho called the police officers “disgusting” and said, “If the images don’t make you angry, you need to feel your pulse.”
Michael Eaves, an Emmy-winning journalist and SportsCenter host, wrote: “For those of you who are somewhat surprised by the bodycam footage of Tyreek Hill’s situation, you were clearly never guilty of driving while black.”
Miami Herald writer and guest on the “Dan Le Batard Show” Greg Cote said, “Tyreek Hill got caught driving while black. That was his crime. It was a gross overreaction by the police. I just thought it was an abuse of power.”
The reaction to the incident on social media was overwhelming on the Dolphins receiver’s side
But Tatum saw things differently – he dissected the bodycam footage on his YouTube channel and the moment Hill rolled his window back up was identified as a point of contention.
A disbelieving Tatum says, “You n***** can’t do what you supposed to do. Why? Bro, you the one speeding.”
After laughing at the way Hill told officers not to knock on his window and that officers should just do their jobs, Tatum said, “That’s not how a traffic stop works, bro. You’re speeding. You’re probably speeding so fast that you’re speeding — which is a crime, they can arrest you and put you in jail.
“And you rolled down the window and rolled the window back up. Why were you mad at them for speeding? Roll down your window.”
Bodycam footage shows officers telling Hill to get out of the car. The wide receiver says, “I’m getting out.”
But before Hill had a chance to open the door, officers ripped it open and dragged him from his car.
Former police officer Brandon Tatum criticized Hill and accused him of lying about the situation
Police officers ripped open Hill’s car door and dragged him out, the footage shows.
Tatum watched the video and was still surprised that Hill did not comply with police commands.
“Roll down the window or we’ll make you get out of the car,” Tatum said before making mocking noises at Hill’s expense. “Get out of the car, he still won’t get out… I’m tired of playing with you guys, you got all these cops here because you’re crazy.”
Later in the video, Tatum reflects on a press conference Hill gave, in which he said he didn’t know why police arrested him and called him a liar.
“You’re lying to the world,” Tatum charged. “Now the bodycam [footage] came out: “I have no idea why they put me in cuffs,” the officer told you.
“He warned you and then he said, ‘I’m going to pull you out of the car, keep the window up.’ Why are you rolling the window up?
“It’s a matter of safety for officers. They don’t know this guy. He could easily pull out. Keep the window open. They asked you a simple question. You’re the one at fault, not them.”
Hill was eventually released and played Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars
Hill later told CNN that he rolled his window back up so bystanders wouldn’t recognize him during the entire event.
“I try not to cause a scene because if I open my window, passersby and motorists will know it’s me and they’ll start taking pictures,” he said.
“I didn’t want to make a scene at all. I just wanted to get the ticket and then go out and have a great Sunday.”
Hill added: “It was crazy – I was a father, I was a husband. I just put myself in that ssituation (thinking): Hey, I had to be smart. That’s why I wasn’t really at that kind of energy. I was just chilling, following rules.’
At least one officer who pulled Hill over did not know who the wide receiver was. Another officer had to inform him.
“Why is he acting like that?” an officer asked, as Hill shouted in the background. “Do you know who that is?
His colleague, who was believed to be the first officer to approach Hill’s car after it was pulled over, replied, “No?”
They were then told it was “one of the Dolphins’ star players,” to which they replied, “Oh yeah?”
Officers were heard telling the NFL star to “stop crying” after they dragged him from his car
Minutes earlier, the wide receiver was handcuffed near Hard Rock Stadium while driving to the Dolphins’ season opener against Jacksonville. “Take me to jail … do what you have to do,” Hill told officers.
He was released instead, but the 30-year-old has previously speculated about what would have happened to him if he hadn’t been a big-name NFL star.
He told NBC, “If I hadn’t been Tyreek Hill, God knows… the worst case scenario would be I’d have been shot or locked up.”
Elsewhere in the video, officers can be heard telling the NFL star to “stop crying” after dragging him from his car and laying him face down in the road.
“When we tell you to do something, you do it. You understand? Not what you want, but what we tell you. You’re a little f****** confused,” one officer told him.
A Florida police union alleged that Hill was driving dangerously when he was pulled over Sunday and that he was handcuffed after refusing to cooperate. Hill said He has ‘no idea’ what prompted his arrest.
“Do you know who that is?” one officer asked his colleague, who simply replied, “No?”
Hill was released minutes later, but not before his teammate Calais Campbell was also handcuffed.
After the game, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel was nearly moved to tears as he told reporters, “The thing that bothers me the most, honestly, is I know I don’t know exactly… I don’t know what that feels like.”
Over the weekend, Miami-Dade police announced that an officer has been placed on administrative duties pending an internal investigation.
Hill has previous convictions for domestic violence, was investigated for another crime in 2023, and was also investigated for possible child abuse.
He has also admitted to having ten children and that two paternity lawsuits were filed against him in 2023. However, he claims he provides for all of them.
