Cross-dressing man dies from deadly infection after putting everyday product in his backside
A Japanese man died of kidney failure three years after sticking eyeliner up his butt.
The unnamed patient, a 60-year-old, was rushed to hospital after his brother found him unconscious at home.
A CT scan revealed a 9cm long tube of eyeliner near his rectum, which doctors said he used “for sexual stimulation”.
The patient, a transvestite, was too unstable for surgery and died two days after being admitted to the hospital.
An autopsy revealed that the eyeliner had entered his bladder, causing a mass the size of an egg.

The above image from the patient’s autopsy shows the tube of eyeliner entering a large bladder stone, which likely occurred when the eyeliner entered and injured the bladder.
Doctors believe the patient died of sepsis because his body overreacted to a kidney infection.
According to the case, published in a medical journalThe patient, whose name is unknown, had been suffering from intermittent abdominal pain for three years.
Two weeks before his death, he complained to his brother, with whom he lived, of anorexia and diarrhea.
The patient’s medical history is unknown as he rarely attended check-ups.
On arrival at the hospital he was still unconscious, but he was suffering from a high heart rate and low blood pressure.
He also had a fever of 38 degrees.
Doctors gave the patient antibiotics, because they suspected an infection, and norepinephrine for his low blood pressure. His vital signs were too poor to undergo surgery.
However, he died two days later after repeated attempts to resuscitate him.
After his death, police investigation revealed that the patient had a habit of wearing women’s clothing.
They also found a vibrator hidden in a stocking in his room. The patient’s left fingernails were painted red at the time of the autopsy.
This led experts to believe he had inserted the eyeliner into his rectum ‘for sexual stimulation’.

The above CT scan shows the eye line near the patient’s bladder. The eyeliner tube was attached to a bladder stone, which was likely formed from sediment and bacteria found on the tube
Researchers from the University of Rochester in New York found that men were more likely than women to visit the hospital with a foreign object in their rectum
The autopsy found small wounds on the patient’s buttocks and an ulcer in his perineum, a small patch of skin between the anus and the scrotum.
The eyeliner had penetrated his bladder and was found in a 2.5 by 2.3 inch bladder stone, about the size of an egg. The mass likely formed from the eyeliner’s damage to the bladder.
The injury created a rectovesical fistula, which connected the patient’s rectum, lower colon, and bladder.
In addition, he developed an infection in his left kidney, which spread to his spleen. This could be due to the fistula, which made it difficult for the patient to urinate, leading to urine backing up in the bladder.
The team also noted that infection may have been caused by bacteria on the eyeliner that could have built up over the three years the eyeliner was in the bladder.
The infection led to sepsis. Sepsis occurs when the immune system overreacts to infections and attacks healthy organs.
The doctors believe this is the first case report describing a complication due to a foreign body in the rectum, several years after the initial incident.
They noted that although “this is an extremely rare case, ‘sexual activity’ should be considered a possible cause of death, even if the activity occurred several years earlier.”
