Cheaper wheels: The average cost to hire a vehicle for a week is now £300, compared to £685 in August
Families with little money can save up to 50 percent on their car rental this half of the period.
According to insurer iCarhireinsurance.com, the average cost to hire a car for a week is now £300, compared to £685 in August.
The study looked at the price of renting a VW Golf with six rental companies, such as Europcar, Hertz and Avis, in holiday hotspots including Barcelona, Milan and Nice.
Barcelona was the cheapest place to hire a car, costing an average of £208 for a week, compared to £609 in the summer.
Booking at the last minute can also cut costs, saving up to £150 in some cases.
If you have already booked, you may be able to cancel and rebook at a lower price, but read the terms and conditions first.
And be sure to check the price of extras, such as adding additional drivers to the policy or renting car seats.
