Asda launches its first convenience stores as the battle between supermarkets to win business intensifies.
The grocer, the third largest in the UK after Tesco and Sainsbury’s, will open two stores before Christmas under the name Asda Express.
The Sutton Coldfield branch in the West Midlands will open next month and Tottenham Hale in London in December.

Another 30 Asda Express stores will open next year. The stores will stock more than 3,000 products and create some 500 jobs.
Meanwhile, Britons are trading fresh food for cheaper, frozen food to save money amid the rising cost of living.
Data firm Nielsen IQ said fresh produce sales fell 8.3 percent in the month to Oct. 8, while meat, fish and poultry sales fell 8 percent as shoppers squeezed their budgets.
According to the market researcher, Asda has been the fastest growing of the UK’s largest supermarkets in the past three months thanks to the success of its new range.
