Woman mutilates boyfriend with chainsaw in front of their 4-year-old child

An Alabama woman has been arrested for allegedly shooting and dismembering her partner with a chainsaw in front of their 4-year-old child.

Joselina Elizabeth Lopez, 26, has been charged with the intentional murder of Benito Morales Guzman, 41, after authorities found his “dismembered and decapitated” body in a Slocomb home on Aug. 27.

The search for Guzman began when his boss reported him missing last week, prompting authorities to visit the home where he lived with Lopez.

Upon arrival, officers smelled a “strong odor of decomposition” coming from a Toyota Corolla full of garbage bags parked next to it.

When police began searching, they found “a body believed to be that of Benita Morales Guzman, mutilated into several pieces,” according to AL.com.

Detectives soon discovered that the suspect had recently purchased four electric chainsaws at Lowe’s and returned one.

“Human flesh was still on the chainsaw found in the vehicle,” arrest records state.

A pistol was found in the house, with five of the six rounds fired from the revolver. Two bullets were recovered from Guzman’s body.

SBI investigators believe the suspect shot Guzman five times, cut his body into nearly 15 pieces with a chainsaw, then stuffed him into garbage bags and placed him in the trunk and backseat of the car.

The suspect is currently being held in the Geneva County Jail, where she reportedly told a family member during a phone call that “I should have left sooner.”

Prosecutors and investigators suspect their autistic child was present at the alleged murder.

Investigation also revealed that the suspect planned to flee to Mexico. At that time, a car seat, a packed diaper bag, the child’s birth certificate and Lopez’s passport were found in another car.

“Additionally, blood was found on the box of baby food in the diaper bag,” court documents said.

The suspect is currently being held in the Geneva County Jail. She reportedly told a family member during a phone call that she “should have left sooner.”

During a bail hearing, she told the judge she acted in self-defense after she and her family “were threatened after Guzman allegedly owed someone money for drugs,” according to WDHN.

Lopez also told the court that the victim tried to isolate her from her family.

Investigations also show that the suspect planned to flee to Mexico. That’s when they discovered a car seat, a packed diaper bag, the child’s birth certificate and Lopez’s passport in another car.

Jennifer Wilkerson, Guzman’s ex-wife, said Lopez’s claim was “unbelievable” and that he would never try to distance her from her family.

“I knew she would say something like that. It’s just surreal; it’s like she doesn’t give a damn about what happened.

When I hear what she did to him, it makes me sick. He didn’t deserve any of that. I mean, she shot him five times. What else was she planning on doing here?

‘Benito would never do something like that. He wasn’t that type of person; he would avoid it if something happened. He wouldn’t fight with anyone.

“He deserves justice and I believe I’m the one who stands up for him because if anyone knows him, it’s me. I’ve lived with him and justice needs to be served. He’s not here, so someone has to stand up for him,” she said.

Lopez’s next court hearing is scheduled for September 11.
