Everything we know so far about the new Gavin And Stacey finale from shock departures and engagement rings to freak accidents and THAT fishing trip as filming for the final ever episode gets underway
Filming for the final episode of Gavin And Stacey is underway, with the cast appearing in the iconic setting of Barry Island this week.
The upcoming Christmas episode will be the highlight BBCThe sitcom is back for the first time in five years and fans are raring to see what writers James Corden and Ruth Jones have planned.
At the climax of the final Christmas episode in 2019, Nessa knelt down to propose to Smithy, but viewers never got to hear his response.
And while viewers were left with a lot of unanswered questions, we’re looking ahead to everything we know so far about the upcoming episode.
And the things we don’t do…
Everything we know so far about the new Gavin and Stacey, from shock departures and engagement rings to bizarre accidents and THAT fishing trip as filming begins for the very final episode
Did Smithy say no?
When the family gathered in Barry for the festivities in 2019, the episode ended with Nessa getting down on one knee and the episode ended right after she asked, “Marry me?”
However, it doesn’t look like the couple have tied the knot, as Nessa (Ruth Jones) was spotted this week without a ring on her wedding finger.
Dressed in her usual rock star attire, while the star wore rings on her other fingers, there was no engagement ring present.
The couple had an on-again, off-again relationship during the series, after several unplanned one-night stands led to their son Neil.
In the series finale, which picked up the characters 10 years after the previous episode, it was revealed that they were successfully raising their son together.
But are the two now officially together, with or without a ring?

Is Nessa leaving Barry Island for good?
Nessa was responsible for some of the show’s most iconic one-liners, but her future was left uncertain when she shocked Smithy with her proposal.
And it looks like the Welsh girl is leaving Barry behind, as recent footage shows her pushing her suitcase behind her.
Wearing a burgundy leather jacket, black leather skirt and heeled boots, the star was spotted locking up the arcade where she worked for the last time.
Could it be that Smithy has said yes to Nessa’s proposal and she is leaving with him to start a life in Essex?

What caused Gavin’s strange accident?
Mathew Horne, who plays Gavin, was seen on set for the first time on Thursday for the filming of the upcoming Christmas special.
And the footage suggests that December 25 will be a day full of drama, as the actor is left shaken after a strange bicycle accident.
Mathew, wearing his bike helmet and a black padded jacket, held on to his wife Joanna Page, also known as Stacey, as he recovered from the shock.
But what causes the accident? Does he swerve because he has other things on his mind? Does he get hit by a car?
I guess we’ll have to wait a few more months to find out.

Are Bryn and Gwen leaving Barry Island?
They form the core of Barry himself, but footage from Wednesday suggested Uncle Bryn and Gwen were set to leave their home in Wales.
Actors Rob Brydon and Melanie Walters looked emotional as they packed up their car outside their famous home.
Melanie, 62, was seen securing huge suitcases to the roof of the car, while her brother-in-law, played by Rob, 59, helped her.
In the 2019 episode, it was revealed that Gwen’s late neighbour Doris (Margaret John) had left her house to Gavin and Stacey and their three children.
If Gwen and Bryn pack their things, does that mean Gavin and Stacey are leaving too?

Neil the baby WILL come back
Nessa and Smithy were reunited with their baby son Neil during scenes filmed on Friday.
Neil was born in 2008 as a result of a one-night stand between the two and is now no longer a baby and 15 years old.
When Neil, played by Oscar Hartland, took a seat in the passenger seat of Smithy’s iconic car, he looked very different to the 10-year-old boy who last appeared in the series in 2019.
As Oscar got out of the car, we saw him waving to fans and making the peace sign as he waited to film his scenes.
But are his parents, who sometimes don’t know each other, finally planning to tie the knot and surrender to their love for each other?

But what we DON’T know – The fishing trip
It’s probably the most asked question in the series.
Fans are dying to know what really happened on Bryn’s infamous fishing trip with his nephew Jason. Neither wants to talk about it, a running joke on the show.
Stacey’s brother, played by Robert Wilfort, made occasional appearances on the sitcom, visiting the family from his home in Spain.
Although the fishing trip was often referenced, fans never knew what actually happened between him and Bryn that day.
So far, Jason has not been filmed yet, suggesting that he will either not appear in the final episode or that his role is still being kept under wraps.

Will Dawn and Pete last another year?
Another duo not yet seen in the film is the iconic Dawn Sutcliffe (Julia Davis) and her disappointing husband Pete (Adrian Scarborough).
The last time we saw them, there was a rift in sight between the two, but luckily Pam and Mick were able to save them back from the brink of divorce.
But how long will the couple, married for 30 years, last another five years? Or will we meet a potential new suitor for Dawn?
Pete Sutcliffe (Adrian Scarborough) can do nothing right as the disappointing husband of Dawn (Julia Davis). Will the couple ever be together again?
Will Rudi return for one last duet with her brother?
Rudi (Sheridan Smith) and Smithy’s performance of Estelle’s American Boy will never be forgotten. The duo proved that they have an unparalleled rap talent.
Rudi did not return for the final Christmas special, much to the disappointment of fans, and she has not been seen on set for the upcoming episode yet.
MailOnline reported in May that it was “highly unlikely” the actress would return to the series, as there had been “no discussions” about her returning.
A source said: ‘Sheridan is unlikely to appear in the Gavin and Stacey finale. No one has approached her to reprise her role and she has other big opportunities in the pipeline.
‘Sheridan has huge respect for everyone involved with Gavin and Stacey and loved her time in comedy, it was a fun time in her life.’
