Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins ​​has prayed for the victims of the Georgia high school shooting that left two students and as many teachers dead on Wednesday.

Apalachee High School in Winder, about 45 miles outside Atlanta, was placed on lockdown around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after gunshots were reported.

Two students and two teachers died as a result of the shooting, while nine others were taken to hospital. A 14-year-old is still alive and in custody.

Heartbreaking video footage showed panicked students rushing to the Apalachee High School football field after the shooting, while others gathered around ambulances as people streamed out of the building.

School shootings in the US are on the rise, with at least 82 incidents taking place in 2023.

According to a CNN analysis, the previous year was one of the deadliest in history, with 46 reported deaths.
