Cristiano Ronaldo went viral after hilariously stealing one of his great rival Lionel Messi’s famous quotes in a clip on his new YouTube channel.

Ronaldo launched his YouTube channel last month and broke a world record by reaching 15 million subscribers in the first 24 hours.

He has already had an interview with his former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand and has also uploaded clips of himself and his regular partner Georgina Rodriguez.

In a recent upload featuring Rodriguez, the pair were seen giggling before Ronaldo uttered the phrase “Que Miras bobo,” which roughly translates to “what are you looking at, you idiot?”

And there was a reason behind that, because they are exactly the same words Messi used in 2022, after Argentina won the quarter-finals of the World Cup against the Netherlands.

The match was chaotic and referee Mateu Lahoz gave 17 yellow cards. Players from both teams faced each other several times.

Argentina looked set to win the match when they led 2-0 in the closing stages, but former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst came off the bench to score twice, forcing extra time.

The South American nation eventually won on penalties thanks to a heroic effort from Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but the controversy continued after the match.

During a post-match interview, Messi caught Weghorst’s attention and after he felt the attacker had challenged him during the match, he shouted: ‘What are you looking at, you idiot?’

The memorable moment went viral immediately, with many people shocked to see the usually mild-mannered Messi lose his temper with an opponent.

Weghorst tried to play down the argument afterwards, insisting he only wanted to show Messi ‘respect’ after a hard-fought match.

ā€œI fought against Messi and there were a few moments between us,ā€ Weghorst told De Telegraaf.

“I think he didn’t like it and it surprised him. But I have a lot of respect for him. He’s one of the all-time greats.

‘I wanted to show Messi my respect after the match, but he didn’t want it.

“I think he was still mad at me. Oh well, I take it as a big compliment that he now knows my name. At least I did something right.”

Ronaldo has copied Messi’s iconic line and it seems he still has the desire to emulate him on the pitch by winning the World Cup before hanging up his boots.

Messi led Argentina to victory two years ago after they narrowly beat the Netherlands, and Ronaldo appears to have set his sights on a sixth World Cup in 2026.

By the time the tournament kicks off in the US, Mexico and Canada, he will be 41 years old, but he has indicated he still feels he will be playing at the highest level for years to come.

Discussing his retirement plans earlier this week, the Portuguese superstar told reporters: ‘When the time comes, I will move on,’ Ronaldo said. ‘It won’t be a difficult decision to make.

ā€œIf I feel like I’m not contributing anymore, I’ll be the first to leave.ā€
