Jadon Sancho received a warm welcome from Chelsea fans as he was introduced at the stadium of his new team, who will play Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The forward sealed his exit from Old Trafford in the dying hours of the final matchday after being left out of United’s squad for the opening two Premier League games.

Sancho, 24, joined the Blues next summer for a fixed fee believed to be around £23million, Mail Sport has revealed.

The Englishman, wearing number 19, was spotted waving to the crowd at Stamford Bridge ahead of the afternoon match against the Eagles.

Speaking about his arrival, Sancho said: ‘I’m very happy to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back.

“The manager spoke to me about the project and for a young player it’s exciting. Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge.”

Sancho replaces Raheem Sterling, who leaves for Arsenal after the former Borussia Dortmund star fell out of favour with head coach Erik ten Hag following a well-publicised spat last season.

The transfer deadline came as a surprise to many after Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted Sancho would stay at the club next season.

When asked if he expects Sancho to stay at the club, Ten Hag replied: ‘As far as I know, yes.

“He’s in our squad and we’re happy with him. We need a good squad, we need depth. We have to play a lot of games until January. After the break we play every third day, so we need options.”

Sancho began his football career at Watford and moved north at the age of 14 to join Manchester City.

He excelled in City’s youth system and just three years later signed for German giants Borussia Dortmund, where he blossomed into a football star and proved himself as one of football’s future wingers.

Sancho made 137 appearances for Dortmund in just four seasons, winning titles including the DFL Supercup in 2019 and the DFB-Pokal in 2021.
