Ivan Toney underwent a medical on Friday ahead of a proposed £40million switch from Brentford to Al Ahli.

The Saudi Arabian club, who have until Monday to close the deal, breathed new life into the transfer window by making offers for both Toney and Chelsea target Victor Osimhen from Napoli, but were only able to sign one player.

For Toney, the question remained whether to accept the lucrative three-year deal for Brentford now, or wait until January when he would have more options.

Arsenal were previously interested in Toney’s availability but later decided not to proceed with a move as Brentford wanted a high transfer fee for the England international.

Brentford later accepted the £40million bid from the Saudi Pro League club, realising it was their best chance of making a profit on their star striker.

Toney was spotted earlier today in London for his medical, which has now been completed and his transfer to the Middle East has not yet been confirmed.

It was an exciting summer for Toney, who was keen to leave the Bees, where he has played for the last four years after a transfer from Peterborough United.

It came after Mail Sport reported that Manchester United were considering strengthening their attacking line with Toney, but had not yet made an offer for the player.

The Red Devils faced competition from Stamford Bridge after it emerged Chelsea were also interested in a new deal before the transfer window deadline.

Despite criticism over the size of Chelsea’s squad, Toney was not the only player under consideration.

Enzo Maresca’s group also wanted to negotiate with Napoli for a one-year loan deal with an option to buy for the transfer of Victor Osimhen.

The striker’s contract was due to expire in 2026 and Gli Azzurri wanted to sell the player before the closing date of Italy’s summer transfer window, which closes on Friday evening.

Like Osimhen, Toney was not in the final matchday squad of the season.
