The latest Sonos app update fixes a few minor issues, but there’s still a long way to go
The saga of the disastrous Sonos app update continues and continues, and the audio company has now rolled out several bug fixes with the latest update. But there’s still a lot of work to be done before users are happy again.
As you can see on the release notes for the latest Sonos app update (via The Edge), in addition to improvements in the areas of “smoothness and reliability”, the Android version of the software restores the ability to clear the upcoming queue.
It is a basic functionality like this that is missing in the recently updated version of the Sonos app. Some users have therefore started looking for alternatives, because they miss features that were present in the older version.
This latest patch also adds some accessibility improvements to the settings section of the app, Sonos says, so they should be easier for everyone to access. There’s also a new Night Mode toggle in the room settings for soundbars.
Coming soon
In a message on WiresAccording to the Sonos team, more improvements are coming soon: better volume response, improved user interface, improved system stability, more reliable alarms, improved queue editing, and Trueplay support for iOS 18.
But all of this takes time – and has been for months. Features like reliable alarms should have been fixed from the start, and Sonos’ initial response to user complaints was less than sympathetic.
In fact, at one point things got so bad that Sonos considered bringing back the old app – although it now looks like that won’t be possible. Let’s hope more improvements come sooner rather than later.
