Meg Ryan and daughter Daisy, 20, make a rare public outing together as they enjoy a sunny day of shopping in New York

Meg Ryan was spotted shopping in the sunshine with her daughter Daisy True in New York on Wednesday, in a rare public gathering.

The 62-year-old City of Angels star and Daisy, 20, browsed for books at the McNally Jackson Bookstore in SoHo before going clothes shopping in TriBeCa.

The actress, who was recently honored at the Sarajevo Film Festival, showed off her effortless style in a white cotton top, black cargo pants and sneakers.

The ’90s rom-com queen wore a crossbody bag and sunglasses to shield her eyes. Meg’s shoulder-length blonde locks were styled in light waves.

Daisy looked chic in a butterfly print shirt, tucked into blue jeans and accessorised with a black belt.

Meg adopted Daisy from China in 2006. She also has a biological son, Jack Quaid, 32, with her ex-husband, actor Dennis Quaid, 70.

The former couple welcomed Jack in 1992. They were married for 10 years before finalizing their divorce in 2001.

Five years later, Meg adopted Daisy, who was born in 2004.

Last year, the Sleepless in Seattle star raved about her kids, telling People“I have two of the best kids. They’re hilarious, they’re smart, they’re kind, they’re interested in other people, they’re curious about the world. I feel like they’re both making the world a little bit better, and I’m just so proud of them.”

“It’s a pleasure to know them both,” the devoted mother added.

Daisy started college last year, and Ryan said she visited her daughter “probably more than I should,” driving hours to see Daisy on her college campus, even if it was just to grab a cup of coffee.

She also admitted that she was a strict parent and that Daisy didn’t have a phone ‘when she was 15.’

“She’s a really multi-interested person and she’s a really good reader. She certainly remembers when the phone wasn’t everything,” she told People.

While Daisy is still studying, Jack has followed in his famous parents’ footsteps as an actor.

He made his acting debut in 2012’s The Hunger Games. He also appeared in Oppenheimer, Logan Lucky and the TV series The Boys.

In July, Jack admitted that he has no problem with being labeled a “fake baby” and that, as a child of Hollywood, he is in a “privileged” position.

“I’m a very privileged person, I was able to get representation very early on, and that’s more than half the battle,” Jack told the Daily Beast.

“I knew the door was open for me in a lot of ways, but it’s not for a lot of actors. And I just tried to work as hard as I could to prove that I deserve to walk through that door.”

Jack is also aware that he is in a privileged position if he is considered for a role in a romantic comedy. After all, his mother Meg is the “undisputed queen of romantic comedies.”

“So if it’s in the romantic comedy world, it has to be different enough and I have to work really hard for it,” he told the outlet.

Ironically, it was Ryan who tried to defend her son against the fake baby moniker by emphasizing how the term undermines her son’s efforts at his career.

“This fake stuff is so detrimental to his work ethic, his talents and how sensitive he is to the idea of ​​his privilege,” Ryan told the newspaper at the time.

While Jack was thrilled to have his mother back, he also admitted that he himself had benefited from having famous parents.

“My first thought was, she’s a mother. She’s a loving mother. But I don’t think she’s trying to say I’m not a fake baby. I think she’s just trying to say that, in her opinion, it undermines my talent,” he told the Daily Beast.

“I don’t think it diminishes my talent. I know I work hard and I know I’ve been told ‘no’ far more often than I’ve been told ‘yes’. But I also know that it’s incredibly difficult to break into this industry and I’ve had an easier time with it than most. Both of those things could be true.”

In addition to her busy life as a mother, Meg has also recently returned to acting. What Happens Later, due out in 2023, marked her return to the screen after an eight-year absence. She co-starred with The X Files star David Duchovny, 63, and also co-wrote and directed the film.

Meg rose to stardom in the 1980s when she played the female love interest in hit films such as the original Top Gun and When Harry Met Sally.

As the years passed, she became inextricably linked to romantic comedies. Her best-known films include Sleepless In Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.
