Kamala Harris’ running mate Tim Walz gives his most in-depth interview of the campaign to discuss GUTTERS with TikTok star
Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz have yet to do a formal interview, though one is in the works. The Minnesota governor did give his biggest interview yet with a TikTok star this week.
Walz spoke with host Kareem Rahma on ‘SubwayTakes’ about his take on gutters in the home.
“I think gutters are the most neglected part of home ownership,” Walz told Rahma. “It’s a personal thing.”
The Democratic vice presidential nominee is known for dishing out home and car improvement advice on social media, and the interview published Tuesday was no exception.
‘SubwayTakes’ is mostly about Rahma iinterviewing people, including some celebrities, on the New York subway, while both holding a microphone attached to a New York City subway map.
In this special edition, he and Walz also appear to be on a train, but not the New York subway.
Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz Talks Home Gutter Maintenance on TikTok on ‘SubwayTakes’
The episode comes as pressure mounts for Walz and the vice president to give a formal interview, but so far they have opted to speak to public figures on social media.
It was announced Tuesday that the pair will sit down with CNN for their first joint interview, airing Thursday night. It will be conducted by chief political correspondent and anchor Dana Bash.
The vice president had said she wanted to schedule an interview before the end of the month, so the interview came at a close call.
For now, the vice president and Walz have both opted to appear on social media, including Walz’s advice on “SubwayTakes.”

“I’ve had problems with gutters before. Your basement gets wet. You get ice dams. It causes a lot of problems,” Walz said in the video.
“It’s not good,” Rahma agreed.
“No, it’s not, but there are solutions,” Walz added. “The other dangerous thing is if you live in Minnesota, fall is a great time of year, lots of leaves.”
“You have to climb a ladder,” Walz continues as Rahma nods. Both men agree how dangerous it is.
“But there is a solution: you can put a gutter helmet over it,” Walz said.
“It covers it. It lets the water through, keeps the water out of your house,” he explained. “I see this all the time.”
The 60-year-old admitted that he “surprisingly enough, I look at gutters quite a lot.” He said he tries not to judge, but when he sees a “well-maintained gutter, it tells you a lot about someone.”
Both men started laughing, clearly enjoying their conversation.
Rahma asks Walz where he buys gutters before they sing the jingle for Menards: “Save big money at Menards.”
In the less than two-minute video, the two also talk about cheeseburgers.
The TikTok account has over 480,000 followers. The Instagram account version has over 314,000 followers.
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have both appeared on social media, but will do their first formal interview with CNN. By the time it airs on Thursday, Harris will have been 39 days since Biden withdrew from the presidential race and launched her own bid without interviewing a reporter.
Harris has also chosen to appear on social media rather than speak to a journalist so far.
She was recently a guest on Track Star on TikTok, where she got to show off her music knowledge by identifying songs by Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, and Too $hort, and talked about how music has impacted her life.
The video has already been viewed more than 937,000 times as of Tuesday.
