The couple, who married in a lavish wedding that aired on Vanderpump Rules, have a 3-year-old son, Cruz, together. Brittany has requested primary legal and physical custody of the child, but is open to visitation rights for her ex.

In addition, Cartwright wants to prevent the court from awarding spousal support to either of them.

Cartwright gave January 24 as the date of separation.

The filing comes days after Taylor left a mental health facility. A spokesperson for Taylor previously said We weekly He was supposed to leave last week.

Cartwright and Taylor married in 2019, but split last February.

The couple’s early romance was chronicled on the Bravo series Vanderpump Rules and their failed relationship was chronicled on the spinoff The Valley, in which Cartwright revealed that she had moved out of their marital home with her son Cruz.

“A lot has happened between me and Jax,” Brittany said in a confessional. “We’ve been having problems all summer, but when the cameras stopped rolling, it just seemed like it got worse and worse and worse.

“So about six weeks ago, I broke up with Jax. I moved into an AirBnb with Cruz because Jax wouldn’t leave the house,” she said in the finale.

Brittany said the fact that Jax didn’t leave showed his selfishness. Brittany said she left with their 3-year-old son Cruz because the situation at home was toxic. Brittany said Jax would come home hungover and be “mean as a snake” in the morning.

“I got to a point where I started noticing everything he was doing to me,” Brittany said. “It hit me like a sledgehammer.”

Brittany said during their relationship that Jax cheated on her, disrespected her, and humiliated her.

“I’ve been through a lot of pain in this relationship,” Brittany said. “I just can’t deal with it anymore.”

After their divorce, Brittany revealed the real reason for their split. In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, she revealed that they had been having problems in their marriage for years.

She explained how the birth of their first child, Cruz, in 2021 prompted her to reconsider her marriage to the controversial Vanderpump Rules villain.

“For me, it was just kind of like standing up for myself. Having a child really woke me up and lifted the veil a little bit on what I deserve and what I’m going to go through for the rest of my life,” she said.

“And I just knew I had to … figure out what I wanted to do for my future and create a super positive living situation for my son. That’s all I care about.”

Cartwright also said in April that her “sexless marriage” to Jax had reached its “breaking point,” admitting that they had talked to others about dating during their divorce, saying, “I don’t want to be unhappy for the rest of my life.”

In an interview with We weekly, The Vanderpump Rules alum said her sex life with Taylor had “declined so much” in recent years and it was starting to affect her self-confidence.

“I felt like I wasn’t good enough. When you feel like your partner doesn’t want you and is being mean to you, you think, ‘What am I doing here?’ I actually live with a roommate. I’ve reached my breaking point,” she explained.

When she tried to talk to Taylor about their lack of sex, Cartwright claimed he would tell her she was “44 and tired” – an answer that didn’t sit well with her.

Brittany also admitted that the couple ran into financial trouble when they were fired from Vanderpump Rules in 2020, which contributed to the rift in their marriage.

“It was definitely a difficult time in our relationship,” she admitted.

“There was kind of a turning point, I became the breadwinner because I was still working, doing commercials and doing deals for different brands,” she continued.

“I was super lucky that all of this happened for me, but Jax didn’t have the same things happening for him. So it was a big change in our relationship that took its toll for a while.”

Last month, Jax revealed on an episode of his and Cartwright’s podcast When Reality Hits that he and Cartwright were still “trying to figure everything out” before considering divorce.

“I’m not in a relationship with anyone, I repeat not. I did go out with someone and it was strictly lunchtime. Brittany and I have obviously been broken up for a while. What we’re going through right now is hard. Marriage is not easy,” he explained.

The bar owner continued, “We’re trying to figure out a lot of different things: therapy, divorce, and maybe, possibly, dating other people.”

“We’re trying to exhaust everything before we have to go down the road of divorce — if that’s the case,” he told listeners. “Part of taking some time apart means you’re examining other people. All marriages are different, but this is what’s right for our marriage.”

Brittany reconciled with Jax in 2017 after it was revealed that he had cheated on her with their co-star Faith Stowers.

She said she “stood by” him during the turbulent times, but the constant fighting in front of their son was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Brittany and Jax started dating in 2015, two years before he confessed to his infidelity.

But they stayed together and got engaged in 2018, married in June 2019 at Kentucky Castle in the Cartwrights’ home state, and welcomed their son Cruz in 2021.
