John Gotti, the late grandfather of Mayweather’s opponent tonight, remains one of the most powerful mob bosses of all time 22 years after his death.
Gotti was the head of the feared Gambino crime family. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1992 after being convicted of murder and other charges, before dying behind bars a decade later.
Ahead of his rematch with Mayweather, Gotti III revealed what his grandfather might have thought about the massive brawl that broke out last time.
“He would have wanted to rip Floyd’s head off, you know, with that much going on.’
“I’m fighting to gain respect for my name and have a positive impact on my family, so I’m sure he… [grandfather] could appreciate that.’
There are stars in Mexico
NBA icon Anthony Davis is in Mexico tonight for the Mayweather vs. Gotti showdown.
There are even rumors that the Lakers’ power forward and Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards will walk into the ring with Floyd…
What time does it start?
Tonight’s performance started at 7:30 PM (Eastern Time), while the main event is expected to begin just after midnight.
Mayweather and Gotti, just like in their first fight, will fight eight rounds of two minutes each.
Good evening!
Hello and welcome to Mail Sport’s coverage of tonight’s draw between Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III in Mexico City.
Mayweather is preparing for another showdown after retiring from boxing, as he is set to share the ring with the grandson of notorious crime boss John Gotti for the second time.
Their first meeting last year was a lot more dramatic than expected. Chaos broke out when Gotti responded to being held back during the match by continuing to punch, leading to a massive brawl in the ring.
Will tonight’s rematch be just as fiery? We’ll bring you all the latest developments as Mayweather laces up the gloves again.
